Soooooo it looks like the 9.0 PS4 firmware update fixed the CBOMB issue…
Tested it on my PS4 with a dead battery and games are no longer crashing on startup and I can even earn trophies, although the trophy earn dates will be blank
@Rovio
If so many people are playing the classic Angry Birds that it negatively impacts your newer games, that should probably tell you that your newer games just aren’t as good
PS5 supports:
- Multi-Disc games
- Updates on disc
- DLC on disc
Literally zero excuse for them to NOT put Phantom Liberty on the disc, especially when this was their chance to make up for the horrible PS4 disc build.
Kinda sad when even the Hitman Trilogy managed to do better
My date when booting my PS4 was 1969 and 5:00PM which is the default date and time the PS4 falls back on with a dead battery, so my battery is definitely still dead.
Also here’s a pic of a trophy I just earned, with the date and time earned being blank
Many people still doubt the claims that PlayStation games include any required firmware updates on disc so here is a proper clip of me copying a firmware update off my AC Mirage PS4 disc without the need of any internet:
“A large number have shifted to digital only” is such a terrible excuse.
Physical games still make a ton of money. Just because they aren’t the vast majority doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make them
Alan Wake 2 FAQ. The game is digital only due to a large number of people shifting to digital only and helps keep the price at $59.99/$49.99. They also do not want to ship a disc that requires a download
As promised, here is video proof that PS5 discs also include firmware updates on them which are installable offline just like PS4 discs do:
Feel free to send this to anyone who doubts that PS5 discs have firmware updates on them
If I ever get into a situation where I have to install one on PS5 I’ll record it there too, I’ve been trying to leave mine un-updated but there’s some things I wanna do sometimes that requires me to reconnect it to the internet lol
Since all this CMOS battery stuff is still relevant, I just realized the Wii U has a compartment on the right side of the console to allow you easily replace the CMOS battery without having to take the entire thing apart.
If only other consoles did this...
I have also had a few other people who have tested it themselves say that digital games also work! I don’t have any digital games installed on my PS4 so I haven’t tested it myself, but that is also very good news if it is true
I hate it when people defend when games aren’t playable off disc by saying “All games require a download”
I looked through my PS5 collection and 50 out of my 55 games are not just playable without updates, but they are completely fine without updates
That’s 90% of my PS5 games
Spotted this new Xbox reprint of the Spyro trilogy at Walmart which uses the Series X case design (but still the original box layout)
This version includes the 2019 reprint disc with it (meaning all 3 games are on disc) making this the easiest way to spot a reprint in the wild
PS5 supports:

Dang I didn’t realize deleting COD Cold War from my PS5 would free up so much space. Now I have lots more space for much better games by better companies
tbh I would buy physical PC games more often if they were like Stardew Valley’s physical release, DRM free version on disc with LAN multiplayer support and includes an optional Steam code if you want that version too
Xbox has been experiencing a major outage for 9 hours and counting, affecting some people launching games or starting Xbox Cloud Gaming sessions. Some people have been getting errors that they don’t own a game. Microsoft says it’s investigating the service issues
Knockout City just shut down their servers today but they also released the private server edition today as well, however it seems to be a lot more than just allowing you to host your own servers, it even adds stuff like Offline Bot support as well. Definitely giving this a try.
Tbh I don’t really trust Microsoft’s claim that purchased Xbox 360 games will still be accessible after the store shutdown when the GFWL Marketplace has been completely non functional since 2018 and no one can download any purchases even though Microsoft claimed we could
The Crew has delisted and will remain playable until March 31st, 2024. After this date, the game servers will shut down, which means the game will not be accessible anymore.
I remember one time Xbox Live went down it wouldn’t even let me play any disc based games. I’m not even sure how Xbox Live being down could effect something like that
This is why always on DRM is horrid. Can’t even play solo. Servers drop and games you pay full price for fail. All digital future sounds horrid.
@XboxGamePass
@XboxCanada
@Xbox
I installed PS4 firmware 9.03 on my PS4 with the dead CMOS battery, physical games still boot and work fine, and earning trophies still works albeit with the blank earn date. Looks like this firmware kept the CMOS fixes from the last update
Funny that they show Jet Set Radio Future in their example to show that physical media is bad considering the only way to obtain the game legally is to buy it physically
I can’t believe I’m seeing people defending the lack of a decent offline mode in GT7.
You can do an offline mode while also preventing save modding in multiplayer.
I know people sometimes say that discs are just licenses and you have to download the entire game but this is the first time where that is genuinely the case. Even the previous few COD games had SOME game data on them
@manfightdragon
I heard it was delayed last minute to rework the visuals after the negative feedback, I guess it had already been uploaded to PSN by the time they decided to delay it
Ngl I don’t think I trust the company with a track record of canceling movies and removing TV shows for tax write offs with an online only live service game
I’m partnering with
@VoiceverseNFT
to explore ways where together we might bring new tools to new creators to make new things, and allow everyone a chance to own & invest in the IP’s they create.
We all have a story to tell.
You can hate.
Or you can create.
What’ll it be?
For online only games this may be true but physical copies are the only legal way to obtain a game after a delisting, and in some cases significantly easier than pirating a game too.
Also most games don’t drive up in price so much after a delisting like Spec Ops did
Everytime a game is delisted/disconnected, someone replies "buy physical."
When a game is delisted, physical owners don't have access a digital owner doesn't.
When a game is disconnected, physical owners don't have access a digital owner doesn't.
They're not a solution.
everyone worrying about a non existent Denuvo problem when what they should be worrying about is
ERROR CE 34878-0
when the ps4 cmos battery dies (and it will) it renders all ps4 digital files unusable without a server reconnection and in ps4 it also kills disc playback
Just tested this on my Series X with a Xbox One game I’ve never played before (just in case any previous data could mess with results) and can confirm it does boot fully offline without needing to go online during installation like it used to
I was thinking to myself yesterday about how Activision and Microsoft are the only two companies I can think of that consistently do terrible physical disc builds.
I guess it’s fitting that they team up
What is your most anticipated physical release of 2024?
Which unannounced physical releases do you hope to see and why?
The majority of our team can't wait to get their hands on
#BaldursGate3
's Deluxe Edition, but there are many more we look forward to.
Minecraft Bedrock Edition has a new physical version reprint that includes PSVR support and version 2.23 on disc (The original Bedrock release had 1.95).
Here’s some pics to show how to spot the new version (New on left, old on right)
The reason why GT7 requires internet for saving is because they don’t want people doing glitches and stuff, but I have an idea.
How about you have two separate saves, one for online mode, and one for offline, and have the two not transfer between each other? 1/3
Things you can do in Left 4 Dead 1&2 if you have no internet: Single-Player, Split-Screen, or System link
Things you can do in Back 4 Blood if you have no internet: Nothing
Bethesda just released an update for Doom Classic on PS4 that fixes the issues with playing it on a local account.
If only they fixed it before the physical version went into print…
For those wondering, this is what happens when you try booting it without updates, just a blank “Check your connection” screen
Also the game name changes to “Woodstock Final” after it finishes installing lol
It genuinely hurts that this game is basically online only and most of these features will go away forever whenever they decide to shut down the servers
I’ve been recording more footage of the 1.00 version of Cyberpunk and it gets REALLY bad after act 1 lol. It’s by far the most broken disc build I’ve ever played, and I’ve played some bad disc builds
Allowing people to host their own servers after the official servers shut down is definitely the right way to handle things 👍👍👍
Wish more games would allow this
We have an important announcement about the future of Knockout City.
Season 9 will be our final Season. All servers will be shut down on June 6th. We have more in store, so stay tuned!
Learn more about the upcoming sunset in our latest blog:
So I think I might have finally found a PS5 game that actually includes updates on disc. Observer System Redux includes version 1.000.007 on the disc, this was after installing it while fully offline btw
Looks like PS5 discs are capable of including updates after all
1/3
Now that Smash bros has all of it’s DLC fighters, Nintendo should make a new physical release that includes all the DLC fighters and Mii fighters on cart
I hate how Microsoft is basically using “Most games require a download nowadays” as an excuse to put incomplete/broken game builds on disc when that statement isn’t even remotely true
I now have 100% confirmation and proof that Windows 11 Home requires internet an a Microsoft account to set up. The network screen will not let you past it with no internet and the account creation has no offline account option, you can only log in with a Microsoft account
1/2
Good news: Microsoft actually used 2 discs for the Series X version of Flight Simulator since it’s too big to fit on one disc
Bad news: The game still requires a download anyways, if you play it without updates you just get this “Check your connection” screen
Imagine delisting your older game because people are playing it instead of spending money on microtransactions for your newer game lmao
And now you’re just making it harder for people to experience where the series started
