Warren Gatland deserves recognition tonight. He has suffered a significant family bereavement yet got back across the world to Wales to preside over two excellent wins. We can’t forget what he must have gone through emotionally in losing his dad.
.
@WelshRugbyUnion
you must:
Investigate why drunk was allowed in;
Refund family for tickets;
Give them free tickets to 6N game;
Invite boy to spend a day with the squad at the Vale;
Realise the huge PR damage done over stadium drinking issue this autumn.
I know some Welsh people find the notion of being proud to be British offensive. They're entitled to their view, but I don't share it. I grew up proud to be Welsh and proud to be British. I still feel the same.
Steve Cooper gets nowhere near enough credit for the job he's doing at Swansea. Look at the momentum, dynamic and consistency they have compared to Cardiff. You have to acknowledge it.
Wales must get Thomas Young into the squad. Complete quality and he’ll tear into it as well. Can cover both flanks and I’m convinced he’d be superb at the World Cup.
Nasty and personal this from Carl Froch, betraying his deep insecurity and inferiority complex (still) re
@RealJoeCalzaghe
. Truth is Froch was never in the same league as Joe who was a true Hall of Famer. Joe never needed him. Never will either
And so rugby's drip-drip descent towards oblivion continues with the Farrell decision.
A long, gradual process but it's underway. The sport will reap what it sows.
"Hey kids, play rugby. Get your heads smashed in."
I know lots have already said this, but away team choosing roof situation is ridiculous. Same protocol as rest of the world should apply...you play in our country, you play in our conditions.
Only the
@WelshGovernment
could spend weeks lecturing people about not congregating together, then engineer a situation on a Saturday night where thousands flock to the same places in a shopping frenzy. The stupidity is breathtaking.
Must admit to being a little taken aback by the doom that’s greeted Liam Williams’ injury - and from very knowledgable people. Obviously a blow but some appear to be on the verge of a minute’s silence. It is still very much game on come Sunday. Very much game on.
Such foolish punditry disregards the lessons of history. Sport is cyclical. Remember being warned how England and France would share the 6N between them for the rest of time? It was proven to be bullshit - as is this.
@susannareid100
Well then we should have remained in the first place. And we would have done if people had had a clue what they were actually voting for.
FACT: Swansea City have sacked more managers in the last six years than the ‘short-term thinkers’ at Cardiff. 5 (Monk, Guidolin, Bradley, Clement, Carvalhal) compared to Cardiff’s 4 (Slade, Trollope, Warnock, Harris)
Sorry, but a Championship level club advertising a role requiring this level of commitment as 'voluntary' is a complete piss-take. There's no other way to describe it.
Very difficult one regards sport this weekend. I get the obvs need to show respect etc, but the diversion may chime with the public mood. My gut feeling is that blanket cancellation is unnecessary.
As one of colleagues I can't begin to describe how inspirational Simon has been in the way he's tackled his illness. We know he's brilliant journalist, but more to the point, a great guy.
The treatment of Bale by Zidane and the Spanish media is an utter disgrace. How easily they forget how much he has helped them win in his time there. Appalling lack of class from someone considered a football statesman. Hope he bombs in his second spell there.
Didn't see the Dan Biggar flare up at the end. More pressing concern is how cumulatively counter-productive his whingeing is over the course of 80 mins. The more moaning, the more disinclined refs will be towards Wales. Ultimately his behavior is simply costing his team.
#WALvFRA
How peculiar. It's just that I thought Ireland were unbeatable, and that their media had become bored with how easy the 6 Nations was for them.
I thought Ireland were set to dominate for decades?
#SixNations

As derided as 3rd/4th play-off is, at least Wales have the incentive of ending a 66-year hoodoo against New Zealand. I don’t care what anyone says, that would be a decent consolation, as flat as things feel now.
They can delay the Olympics a year, they can delay the Euros a year, but the Lions tour? Oh no. I mean, there are summer tours scheduled in 2022 for the home nations already that nobody gives a sh*t about...
Cardiff City celebrations in town looked positively civilised as I walked through about 6pm. Better than the Dickensian scenes Wales rugby games produce.
Would Wales have reached the 2019 World Cup final with Ellis Jenkins? I know, I know, if my auntie had b*******s etc etc.... I just can't help wondering after watching that though. Genuinely world class player.
We often equate great defensive displays with 'bodies on the line' but Ben Davies was the brains behind that shutout tonight. His ability to sense danger and snuff it out was the difference. Poch, Mourinho, Conte...they've all stuck with him at Spurs. There's a reason for that.
It's two years of no alcohol for me today. 2nd year been worlds easier than the 1st, but you can't white-knuckle it anyway. Requires complete mindset change. Get to that and, trust me, you won't ever want to go back.
Liam Williams moaners....it wasn’t that long ago he couldn’t get in the team. Sunday is about mentality. If players believe they will win, then they damn well will.
Geraint Thomas is about to put Wales on the sporting map in a way, certainly no Welsh individual, and possibly no Welsh team, ever has. Subjective call. Admittedly very open to debate.
#TourdeFrance
Some of the reports I’m reading on England 46 Wales 10 are woefully lacking context. Unless you explain the vast discrepancy in the respective journeys towards professionalism then writing about a ‘hammering’ isn’t even telling half the story.
That result was progress for Wales.

Not getting why one of the mitigating factors for Peter O’Mahony was his ‘conduct in the hearing‘. What, did he stop running around when he was told and sit quietly doing some colouring in?
Off the scale stupidity from
@fmwales
. 'We don't want vaccinators standing around with nothing to do'. Er, we don't want people dying either. Imagine if this comment had come from Westminster. Twitter would have jammed and gone down by now.
Jordie Barrett is red all day long. Catching a high ball does not require a karate kick to maintain balance. If it does, then rugby will have to ban catching high balls won't it.
Ridiculous to take aim at Gatland for calling the Josh Adams' incident dumb. It was. But it's one word. It's benign. There are rare occasions when public criticism of players by coaches is absolutely justified.
That's absolutely the case here.

There are calls for all Welsh rugby clubs to have a defibrillator following the tragic death of a Cwmllynfell player

One observation on Ospreys-Scarlets merger. Hope the new name is geographical. Then there may be a fighting chance of some people buying into it. Don't give us a meaningless Bears/Badgers/Squirrels/Guinea Pigs tag.
I recall how dazzling the Scarlets were in attack under Pivac and Jones, but Wales look like they're wading through treacle. They require urgent improvement offensively.
#SixNations
Disallowed try a bit of a smokescreen IMO. Bigger picture is the huge strides Wales have made since autumn re squad depth/style etc.

Let’s be under no illusions, Stephen Jones is joining Wales to ensure Rob Howley’s attacking plans are implemented effectively. The idea he’ll be some transformative knight in shining armour is silly.
The sheer farce and stupidity of this arrangement brought about by
@WelshGovernment
legislation. If you didn't know better you wouldn't think it was real. A national embarrassment.
So we have a lockdown 'circuit-breaker'. Say, for arguments sake, infections fall. We then come out of restrictions. Then in January infections rise again. What do we do, go back to lockdown? If our leaders can't see the utter insanity of that then heaven help us.
The stat we need, daily for the next month, is how many people in Wales have been hospitalised because of (not with) Omicron. Bet we don’t get it
@WelshGovernment

That was a genuine ‘Will I ever see it in my lifetime?’ Welsh sporting box ticked. Just a privilege to be there to see it. Stadium atmosphere unreal. Ben Davies and Wayne H share the MoM for me. Cymru am byth xxx

OK. For this weekend. Ellis Jenkins: 4 carries, 9 tackles 1 turnover. Josh Navidi: 5 carries, 8 tackles, 1 turnover. Thomas Young (in a 52-3 defeat) 9 carries, 19 tackles, 5 turnovers.
A poorly judged and unnecessary reaction to what was a fairly benign observation. Jones may be a great coach, but he's shown too often that he lacks class. Still, I guess he's bulletproof for now.
Barry Island engulfed by disgraceful behaviour the last two days and
@WalesOnline
you need to be all over this tomorrow - public and Island traders disgusted. Drunkenness, drug taking, litter, total disregard for parking restrictions. Never mind Bournemouth....
This bloke is my local MP. I can't stand the way he appears to see himself as above media scrutiny. Either that or he's a coward. He has questions to answer, but not for the first time he hides.
Everything I’ve been told suggests Potter would have stayed had he been given assurances Swansea would be in a position to have a go next season. Obviously they aren’t going to be. That’s the most concerning thing for Swans fans.
Having married a girl from Dafen I know just how revered Phil Bennett was among his own people. That reverence of course extended far beyond those small boundaries. RIP a true rugby legend.
Reflecting on that 44-0 Scarlets-Ospreys scoreline; Scarlets entitled to celebrate of course, but if that result isn't a red flag for the regional game I don't know what is. Prime fixture of the season reduced to a cakewalk. Sad and damaging.
It will be rubbish, not phenomenal. If you want phenomenal try introducing some meaningful geographical rivalry, some jeopardy, travelling fans, a sense of occasion. Watching SA players is great - in Tests. Welsh public aren't interested when it's at this level. As we've seen.
This 0-0 draw lark may be in the rules but it’s woefully unsatisfactory. Unless you have a viable contingency why stage a tournament in typhoon season? Spoiled it.
#WorldCup2019
Being accused of whingeing about Champions Cup s-f but why is it beyond the wit of rugby to have neutral venues? Pool seeding argument is nonsense. Knock-outs are knock-outs.
Was privileged to cover most of this man's career, and ghost-write one of his newspaper columns. One game I was at sticks in my mind: Western Force 17-69 B&I Lions, June 5, 2013. 11 out of 11 (2pens, 9cons). Finest display of goal-kicking I've ever witnessed. Or will.
Great to see a major trophy go to a club for whom it really means the world - as opposed to a club that's just gone out and bought the world and just ticks off another pot. We see enough of that.
#FACupFinal
More I think about it the more senseless postponing sport this weekend seems. As for extending it to kids and grassroots…that’s inexplicably silly. But there we are. The world we live in IS inexplicably silly.
Harris has to go. Why? Because they are being outclassed by teams they should be vying with at the top of the table, Swansea included. The players don’t believe.
Such a chronic lack of urgency. Lives are at stake in this as much as they are with lockdown restrictions which
@fmwales
never stops preaching about. Typical bubble politician's quote.
'Vaccination is neither a sprint nor a contest' says the First Minister as he pledges the rollout will take place 'as quickly as we are able'. Follow live:
If England win I wouldn't begrudge their fans the mother of all parties. But a bank holiday? Leave off. It's unnecessary populist nonsense from a govt desperate to muscle in on any glory.
