Definitely overkill but I've been making a lower poly version of each of the weapons that will be held by enemies and picked up off the ground with the "high poly" version held by the player. Most of the tris are in the iron sights.

Blender vertex color tip: The data transfer modifier is OP for things like foliage. You can project the vertex colors from one mesh to another in real time. Much quicker than baking light every time you need to move something.

Been slowly making my way through The Black Parade the last few weeks & it really is something special. If you are a fan of Thief or stealth games (or just brilliant level design & atmosphere) I HIGHLY recommend checking it out if you haven’t already.
Here's a look at the topo incase anyone finds that helpful. I didn't spend much time on it because it's not going to be used for anything other than simple posing.

Here's a clip from our Discord showing the basics of how it works incase anyone finds it helpful. It's very simple, just make sure your node setup is as shown, your mesh has a VC channel, and attribute is selected under color in the solid mode viewport shading settings.
