The last stage of power is to create its own opposition and control it without giving the game away. The sense that absolute power is concentrated on the hands of one or the few gets so overwhelming at times that masses rise in revolt. Hasina didn't get this. Neither did Oli.

What’s happening in Nepal is extremely worrisome and the same playbook as we saw in Bangladesh under the guise of youth/students movement. Wishing peace returns soon & hoping everyone is safe.

Nepal should be wary of what comes after the revolution. In Bangladesh, the protesting students' party, NCP, has lost much of its public support after serious allegations of extortion, financial misconduct, instigation of political violence. And the country is yet to hold polls.

CAA extension is a lifeline for Bangladeshi Hindus since all they have waiting for them at home is lynching, forced conversion, or jail under the blasphemy law. My piece for @ThePrintIndia. https://t.co/VpcjrrvvNI

Bangladeshi Hindu leaders are either in jail or in hiding. And some journalists who tried to report their continued persecution have either lost their jobs or mysteriously died.
