Exploring the 'maiden, mother, crone' theme in Poor Things. Martha's defiant crone's a jolly ol’ hag and a harridan thriving in her post-horny era (because sex is fun, but there is so much more to life and being a liberated woman living it up).

The story may be familiar to anyone who has read or watched any of the other adaptations of the novel. But do not go in believing Ripley to be a lazy rehash of Minghella’s adaptation. Read on @thebestnetflix . ‘Ripley’ review:.

The minor quibbles one may have about Andrew Scott's Netflix series Ripley pale in comparison to the series' overall brilliance. This is a neo-noir masterpiece.

3 Body Problem reminds you of the 22-episode TV shows you watched (think Lost) during the dawn of the Golden Age of television, right before the start of the streaming era. It is easy to binge without being a mindless meditation in mediocrity at that.

Spaceman merely uses its sci-fi elements as a crutch to excavate the epidemic of male loneliness. ‘Spaceman’ review: Adam Sandler triumphs in tragic sci-fi . Read on @thebestnetflix .

Johan Renck's Spaceman is centred around a tremendously melancholic Adam Sandler in space. If you love being sad watching films, this is for you.

Cute but ultimately reductive. ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ review: A pretty mess

Netflix's adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender may find its audience among younger viewers unacquainted with the original or diehard stans.

In The Vince Staples Show, Staples, like his semi-fictional alter-ego, manages to forge his own path. So, try to keep the Atlanta comparisons at bay and enjoy this delicious bite-sized gem. ‘The Vince Staples Show’: A terrific Afro-surrealist satire

One of the most underrated shows from last year. Fishback enacts Dre’s internal turmoil with sublime relish. This isn't misogynoir. In dissecting Dre’s psyche, Swarm elevates the discourse surrounding black, female representation in fiction.

Dominique Fishback's Dre in Swarm is the ultimate manifestation of the queer-coded, repressed female rage of the asexual kind.

Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Kaluuya’s The Kitchen is a dystopian elegy that manages to be an evocative exploration of the human condition in a future that has already arrived for many communities living in the current global south.

Move over 'Saltburn'. 'The Kitchen' starring Kano is the film you need to watch if you want to be a part of the class politics discourse in cinema in 2024.
