Thierry Henry also scored the winner in the 2003 final but they pretend he never scored in a final.

I find that ppl nowadays dont realize how prestigious Confederations Cup was.Only continental champions (Euro, Copa América winners, etc.) and the World Cup holder qualified. In 2013, Brazil defeated Spain 3-0, ending Spain's three-year unbeaten streak. Neymar won the mvp.

Chalobah has no business starting for England over Maguire. Can't trust him to defend a straight ball down the middle.

It’s funny we also can’t do this effectively because all the players legs are gone from playing 80 minutes 3-4 times every 10-13 days when MLS, Ethan, Dowman, Jesus, Norgaard, are all sitting on the bench lol. Dead legs trying to get up the pitch quickly, smh.

This is the most worrying thing about Arteta's Arsenal. Teams which are braver don't seem to be punished so much for throwing men forward against them. That's the biggest sign of an imbalanced team If you sit back, you need unstoppable counter-attacking force...

Vidic obviously isn't near Saliba or Gabriel, but that United side set the PL record of 14 consecutive clean sheets, because of their sheer attacking force. Pushing men forward against this United side was scary in Rooney - Ronaldo days.

in order to be a great defensive team. Instead, Arsenal try to build more slowly like a possession team, but also sit behind the ball. You need to get the ball into the forwards more quickly when you play this way, and break attachment with specific attacking shapes.

They could all be behind the ball and play tight combinations to get out. Diego Costa and Carrasco (pace) as outlet get out balls. Some great defensive teams can be called boring (and sometimes they are), but if you throw men forward, they'll destroy you.

against you. Even the art of defending is more than just sitting as many men behind the ball as possible. In La Liga, Atleti weren't just a boring team. Arda Turan, Saul, Koke, Grizmann. Extremely technical players that would play in proximity...

The point I'm making is that excessively defensive football is a false economy. Football is a dynamic sport. Teams have a fragile balance and flow like a river from back to front. Having a Thierry Henry/Mbappé type outlet makes teams think twice about pushing men forward...

In the first half of the 90s, Ajax and Barca type positional football, started to take hold. Saachi type football was under decline, as Milan lost dominance in Serie A. By the end of the 90s. Teams like Madrid, Man U, Dortmund and Bayern were regulars in latter CL stages.

Late 80s/early 90s Serie A was a brutal brutal league. The concept of "tactics" simply revolved around newer ways to defend. La Liga in the same era was considered something of a backwater league of the top footballing nations. https://t.co/09QWAsYjTo

It's funny how overrated the defensive level of the PL is now. You'd think they were talking late 80s/early 90s Serie A where more than 10npg made you world-class. If you roll back tapes of the 90s, you'll see the quality of tackling is much much higher.

This is really an important factor in pulling the trigger on Arteta. His tactics lower the value of players because of weird roles. For eg Tierney went from young left back with a great reputation to this LCB/LWB hybrid stuff. 90% of teams don't want this https://t.co/DVpW7nAYZV

Ronaldo and Anelka were both on the race of winning the Premier League golden boot in 2008/09 and Anelka had to score this insane solo goal vs Sunderland to win the award ahead of Ronaldo. This beyond epic, man. https://t.co/4LshAYW245

Same with Saka, Lacazette (9.5 role), Aubameyang (wide poacher mix). This kind of football simply has to get results to be worthwhile. Otherwise all it's doing is making scouting harder and reducing value of players.

Arsenal manager: - should use ‘mainstream’ tactics & use conventional players (eg: current MCFC, LFC, EFC, AVFC; and unlike LCFC or..AFC) - should feel genuinely satisfied with low profile players worth £10-20m - should be comfortable with high high squad turnover per season
