Proud of our team who worked w/ @PAHumanServices to conduct a needs assessment of maternal & child health across all 67 PA counties. This data can help local leaders prioritize funding for family support services. #PaNeedsAssessment

A lot has changed in the 8 weeks since we released our initial #schoolreopening guidance. Our team of experts updated our guidance with strategies for reopening schools, components of safety plans, recommended interventions for K-12 schools & much more. https://t.co/q4kxisEJQY

8/9: Keeping schools open will require renewed commitment by all of us to #mask in public locations and reduce our gathering sizes

7/9: With lower case incidence—and with the strong safety protocols they have been working on since spring—we are hopeful that those #schools that resume in-school instruction will get off to a strong start before colder weather arrives later in the fall

6/9: This stabilization is providing an opportunity for many areas who had chosen to delay in-school instruction for K-12 to now accelerate the return of children to the classroom

4/9: Now, a week past Labor Day, we are finally seeing positivity begin to ease back in these areas, alongside improving case incidence (take Chicago for example)

2/9: Several weeks ago, our team, including @GregoryTasian & @JingHuang_UPenn, had predicted that the end of summer & Labor Day would bring about some resurgence from colleges opening and vacationers returning to metropolitan areas:

As we quickly move toward the end of summer, this week’s four-week projections have us convinced that this Labor Day will be far different than years past. Last week, we noted with some optimism that...

Thread 1/9: For those school districts that have not yet opened, our new @PolicyLabCHOP models reveal a potential window as #COVID19 case incidence & testing positivity is now declining in many counties across the U.S.:

Helping to get kids safely back in school has been our goal since the outset of this project. So when our team made a difficult decision early in August to advise schools to exercise patience with...

As one of the groups with weekly modeling of this epidemic, I cannot emphasize enough the urgency in standardizing the reporting of all positive cases, PCR and antigen included.
What a mess. 21 states don't report all antigen test results. 15 states don't count positive antigen test results as COVID cases. Nearly half of states believe their antigen test results are underreported. Without the right data, we can't control Covid.

It's official! @GreenLightPHL just announced a $3.5 Million Fund III to improve outcomes for children & families in Philly. As a member of GreenLight's Advisory Council, I am thrilled!
GreenLight Fund raised $3.5 million for Covid-19 and poverty relief in Philadelphia. The fund was backed by First Round Capital's Josh Kopelman and several members of the Lenfest family.

Looking at our own data to better understand how #COVID19 impacts high-risk groups, applying what we’ve learned to patient care & sharing important insights within our public health communities to improve #populationhealth will be key as we look toward an uncertain fall.

In a new @JAMAHealthForum article out today, @chenkenyon, myself, and colleagues discuss the opportunity to rethink how we’re using health system data to better serve our patients and communities amid #COVID19:

Nationally, we need to require that all public health reporting include probable cases with positive rapid antigen tests in aggregate daily reporting so that we are not flying blind as we enter a fall season that may be difficult in many areas of the country. Please forward.

County and state officials @TexasCovid need to explain these differences, which we see in many counties around Texas. Now is not the time to be misleading the public when schools are weighing difficult decisions around the safety of reopening.

The only ways for case rates to plummet while testing positivity is not changing (and remains high) is to stop testing or under-report tests. In early July, San Antonio was conducting more than 6000--we assume PCR--tests a day, which is declining below 2000 per day this week.

We also see that test positivity rates have not changed and remain nearly 14% in San Antonio, and nearly 20% in neighboring Guadalupe County.

But in this time, there are over 8000 probable cases in San Antonio from positive rapid antigen tests that we would assume have not been included in reporting.
