The federal Liberals say their Bill C-5 will help cut through red tape for major projects. What exactly IS that red tape, I asked myself. Here are answers from three people trying to build things: a hydro/broadband line, a port terminal and a mine.

I'd prefer it if MPs and parties stopped talking about ordinary procedural moves as having "forced" this or that. Forcing emergency debates (which do nothing) and meetings (called almost automatically upon request of MPs), forcing votes to be divided (Speaker said "OK!"), etc.

Bill C-5, the internal trade and build-baby-build bill, is poised to get final approval in the House of Commons today. For the Liberal government, passing the bill seems like it’ll be the easy part. Here’s the state of play, from me and @Laura_Osman_:
