We know who won and who lost; and it’s legitimate to ask questions about what failed. But it seems far more important to take a longer and deeper look at what “succeeded.” As Susan Glasser reminded us, the campaign embraced by a solid majority of American voters “was the most

Power for many Monterey residents went out around 640pm tonight, over 5,000 customers, no estimated restoration time. Bummer timing on election night.

Even if Trump loses, he will have proved that the most vicious campaign of lies, misogyny, racism, and xenophobia ever waged was not enough to stop nearly half the country from supporting him. My last pre-election column:

But on the eve of another razor-thin election, it sure beats the alternative.

Let's please remember that the Republican presidential nominee is set to be SENTENCED for 34 felonies on November 26. That he is a major party nominee is not normal. The rule of law matters. Vote accordingly.

Trump is closing in a way that makes it impossible to normalize or rationalize the virulent, racialized Us versus Them hate that has been his animating political purpose for over a decade.

The blue bars are articles mentioning Hillary Clinton's email server in the week after the Oct. 2016 Comey letter. The red bars are articles mentioning Trump's Jan. 6 indictment the week after Jack Smith's latest filing was unsealed earlier this month.

Harris is running as the 1st post-media president. It's the media's own fault! Instead of meeting a threat to democracy, careerist clickbaiters have both-sidesed, fact-checked trivia, and asked pointless questions My column on 2024's massive media fail🎁 https://t.co/eoJRnw7Jwg

Ruth Bader Ginsburg's decision to hold on to her Supreme Court seat and resist suggestions that she step down had vast and tangible consequences that the country will live with for generations. Joe Biden should be mindful of that unfortunate lesson. https://t.co/017Pfg5fG0

The president has a long record of distinguished achievements. His next one should be setting up a better candidate to defeat Trump.

I get how fascist the Project 2025 agenda is. But we need a viable candidate to stop it from being enacted.

The discourse attacking the media for calling out concerns about Biden's age is so wrongheaded, and exhausting. Those who have power need to wake up and do something. We are in a 5-alarm fire. There is nothing Biden can do now to dissuade concerns—the cake is baked.

One can't "recover physically" from age-induced cognitive decline. Biden steps aside, or democracy is assuredly lost—and it may be lost even if he does. People need to focus on what matters—winning, and saving democracy.
Opinion by David Ignatius: The NATO summit will be a moment of trepidation and peril. Every European eye will be on Biden, wondering whether he can recover physically and politically.
