A good policy read. "Despite a headline‑grabbing transformational tag, the 2025 Budget misses the chance to treat affordable housing, income supports, and ending poverty as the true foundation of nation‑building." Maytree, Nov. 7.

Disabled folks in Canada are used to being shut out of govt budgets during economic crises. Invisibilized. Treated as disposable. This fed. budget is no different & lots of you enduring legislated poverty have called the feds out. Good! 👏🏽Our community and its allies can’t let

@Phil_Lewis_ While the policy may seem race-neutral on the surface, it constitutes insidious racism as it leverages long-standing, racially discriminatory systems to place the burden of budget cuts on the most vulnerable populations, who are disproportionately Black people. @NAACP

Canada spends less per person on disability benefits than the US, has minimal RGI housing and has no SNAP program. Poor disabled Canadians are kept in destitution 50% below the poverty line and pay market price for all their needs. Solidarity with our cousins to the south.

UPDATED: The AG's office confirms changes to elections in Ontario will be "effective immediately" if they are passed. Means Doug Ford could stay on as premier until 2030 without calling an election, which was previously scheduled for 2029. #onpoli https://t.co/lfyGUQa7xC

Bill 60 still: - Allows landlords who have provided 120 days notice for an Landlord’s Own Use eviction, to not to have to provide compensation to the tenants or offer another unit. - Shortens the Arrears Eviction Notice Period from 14 to 7 days—making evictions even faster. 4/4

Bill 60 still: - Limits a tenant’s ability to raise new issues at an LTB arrears hearing unless the tenant paid 50% of the rent arrears claimed in the landlord's application. - Provides the AG with authority to limit how a final decision or order of the LTB can be reviewed. 3/4

Good — this is our first victory! But while @fordnation may be calling off consultations on eliminating security of tenure for tenants, make no mistake: their intention with Bill 60 and beyond is to weaken protections for tenants that will leave Ontarians homeless. Keep fighting!

Our government is not proceeding with consultations on potential changes to Ontario’s tenancy lease framework regarding month-to-month leases. We will continue to implement other common-sense reforms to strengthen the province’s rental housing market. Full statement below:

We're in the middle of the worst housing and homeless crises in Ontario history. And the Ford government is about to pour gasoline on the fire. The Ford government is handing corporate landlords exactly what they've been asking for and leaving Ontario renters out to dry. This

🗣️The impact of #Bill60 is not to be underestimated! Many will face homelessness if this bill passes. The idea of Ontario government prioritizing rent profit over people having stable and affordable housing is inhumane.

I'm a month to month renter myself — my lease expired in 2021. If we remove security of tenure, my landlord can simply choose to put me out on the street at any time through no fault of my own, with no legal reason, and with no recourse.
