This is a stunning reversal of fortunes for NASA from the US Senate - incredible job to all of you who wrote to your Senators!! This still has to go back to the House so make sure to let your Representatives know that you want this ratified.
🚨 NASA TO GET $279M top line *INCREASE* from Senate CJS. MORAN says "we were able to protect NASA Science". FY24 Enacted for NASA was $24.838B. Request was $18.809B. CJS Bill will have NASA at 24.9B.

At a conference dinner with five Anglo/European early career astrophysicists, I asked if what’s happening in the US has affected their career plans. They all said they are not even considering moving to the US as a result. Terrible news for US science.

UBI could prop up consumer market but such a program would have to be nearly entirely funded by tax on AI companies and derivative services. So by this logic, wouldn’t AI companies be lobbying for greater taxation on themselves?.

If you're remotely interested in astrophysics, the Fermi Paradox, etc., I can't recommend Cool Worlds Youtube channel enough. Production so good and @david_kipping so slick I first assumed they were pro-content producers, not a Columbia astrophysics lab.
