Will you be in Baltimore overnight? Because this can be quite a fun town if you have the right guide.

Enjoying this show The Lowdown. Here’s Ethan Hawke trying to hide that he’s been beaten up from his ex and her new partner:

“Action is cut to pieces” I mean Hot Fuzz was a love letter to 80s/90s action films that routinely got that exact complaint from critics so maybe Edgar Wright reads this and goes “this guy gets it”

Saw ROOFMAN again last night and loved it again. Kirsten Dunst won’t be nominated at the Oscars but she will be nominated at my new awards ceremony, the Golden Gavels. If I have one criticism it’s that the voiceover is a little cosy and pat. Judge Franklin: firm but fair

I’ve spent what feels like my entire adult life being amazed by how DENSE people can be about Bond “continuity”. Otherwise intelligent people get tripped up by it. A strange phenomenon.

And like a lot of 80s action films this has a protracted mess of a third act (the train goes off the rails at Michael Cera’s Home Alone house). But I love those movies anyway and mostly had a great time with this. And no winking at the screen from Powell he’s FUMING 🤬 throughout

THE RUNNING MAN: the way to make a splash on film twitter is to say a movie is either a stone cold classic or a worthless piece of crap, but I refuse to play the game lol: 7/10. Maybe 8. Mostly I was just relieved that this felt like an 80s/90s action film played straight…

What did Guillermo del Toro do where he’s suddenly the nemesis of young film twitter? All of them jumping on a bandwagon without a clue what they’re talking about. “If I do a quote tweet saying Frankenstein is the worst shot film in the history of cinema I’ll get 1.5k likes!”

Quite a few Predator Badlands fans on here sound like execs “franchise high opening weekend, 35-40 mil, broadening the demographics paid off. Well played, Disney”

Tom Cruise and a puppy on set 🥰🥰 Excuse me, I'm going to lay down and die of too much cuteness. #TomCruise
Are you guys ready to die of overload cuteness? Because if I post this next picture, I'm sure there'll be a lot of dead fangirls tomorrow. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

The marketing campaign for PLURIBUS gave so little away that I was borderline annoyed by it… but having watched the outstanding first episode I’m glad I was kept in the dark. Also Rhea Seehorn… what a great actor/director pairing.

This is a bit disingenuous. If you don’t want to retread things then maybe don’t take that thing from the climax of Aliens and put it in the climax of your film 🤦♂️
Dan Trachtenberg knows Predator purists may criticize #PredatorBadlands but says 'retreading and remaking the same thing over and over' risks upsetting everyone (via @IGN)

Pictured: me watching Predator: Badlands. Then me going on Letterboxd to find that this kids film is what people want from this franchise?? Cuddly predator fighting dinosaurs with Fanning as a perky sitcom sidekick? John McTiernan would be spinning in his grave (if he was dead)

Watched two John Carpenter films and really enjoyed both: Prince of Darkness, which I saw years ago but couldn’t remember (40 yr old grad student lol), and In the Mouth of Madness, which was a blind spot: kind of amazing how inventive the latter is, maybe ahead of its time.

Just once I wish someone would say “the sex scenes stop the narrative dead but who cares they’re fun”
#BIFA nominee Harry Melling on how his sex scenes with Alexander Skarsgård in ‘Pillion’ are not just “sexy scenes” but actually “push the narrative along,” which is what compelled him about the script
