Schools where staff are looked after...no emails after 6pm, day off in lieu for wkend CPD event, food on parents eve & inset days, meetings capped (by number & length), yoga classes offered, permission to go to sports day/ funerals/ weddings etc. Valuing staff makes a difference.

Teaching isn't a career - it's a lifestyle choice. It's the only profession where you work, even when you're on leave. It's not bad time management from teachers.

Once worked in a school that wouldn’t let a teacher go to her own child’s first nativity play. All goodwill instantly lost. (Colleagues had offered to cover).

I’m lucky to work in a school where all those apply except yoga and the email policy. We can send and reply to emails when ever we like but there is no EXPECTATION that we will reply in the evening. Some prefer to get home, spend time with kids then work once they are in bed.

Examples of things I’ve heard schools do. But yes, funded from the budget. S’pose the idea is that if you treat staff well then you might not have to spend as much on staff cover.

No most of this but the yoga!! Staff deserve the extra care and support - bacon butties every Friday and free tea and coffee and fruit basket daily. Can do more though. Half day Chrimbo shop this year attached to half day PPA so full day off went down well!

‘No emails after 6pm’ is an awful rule IMO. Some of us genuinely LIKE to work in the evenings (and not the mornings before school) and like the flexibility of being able to do work at the time that we see fit. Restricting times takes away that very flexibility.

I'm working right now. Quite enjoy it too. These are just examples of measures I've heard of schools taking to look after staff. I hope they were reached after a democratic consultation with staff.
