Anyone else getting a little bored of all the pedagogy bashing on EduTwitter? Teachers need to work out what works for them and their students in their settings. The last thing the teaching profession needs is overly prescriptive and reductive pedagogy.
@darynsimon
The actual pedagogy of teachers has been bashed by those outside the classroom for as long as Iโve been teaching. Iโd rather we were bickering amongst ourselves.
@darynsimon
โฌ๏ธ This! Iโm adding more and more footy & music related accounts these days Daryn so I see less annoying EduTwitter spats & opinions! PS - You off to Green Man again this year?

Two things I detest:
1) Users openly mocking other users on a public site. I hope they don't promote that kind of attitude in the schools they work in.
2) The arrogance and sanctimony of some users because their way is the 'correct' way.
@darynsimon
If people hadn't "bashed" my pedagogy a few years ago, my students right now would be getting a significantly worse quality of education. Working out what works is all very well, but without knowledge critique you are basing that on folk wisdom and naive ideas.
@darynsimon
Not tired, but dismayed by unprofessionalism, unpleasantness and double standards and swiftness to block any disagreement.
Full of respect for you, your work and views Daryn but to justify any practice in context feels a cop out mate.
But Iโm not a teacher so what do I know?
@darynsimon
Yes. My daughter is about to set her very first classroom up and imagine the example thatโs being set on Twitter? Luckily Iโve told her to ignore it all and do what she feels is right for her class. (and also ignore my gin tweets
#awkward
)
@darynsimon
WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PROFESSIONALS! FFS! It's about time we all started behaving like it. So much kids bickering and one-upmanship. It's embarrassing.
@darynsimon
I am probably blocked by most of the bashers so have seen little of it but I maintain that, for all practical purposes, subject determines effective pedagogy.
Those who hop between styles lack subject & curriculum knowledge.
@darynsimon
Yes. I always say to parents when showing them around school, that we donโt say weโre a โthisโ school or a โโthatโ school but we have a huge toolbox full of strategies & use what we feel is right for our children, at the time taking into account needs, context and purpose.
@darynsimon
I deactivated my Twitter for 2 weeks. When i came back, 2 things hit me
1) How supportive & lovely many people i follow are
2) How many are using Edutwitter as a self promotion tool and so have to have an angle which often includes denigrating others or their approach
