The method here is etching on your pattern(s) with chemical steps to remove unwanted silicon. It is possible to use glow discharge as one of the steps and perfectly feasible to use atmospheric oxygen to do this at low pressure (eg with a large bore syringe)

Random: technically it is possible to make your own memory ICs. It isn't easy but can be done. A 256 bit one would need about 10 steps if you started with a clean wafer. Having the right tools helps here.

They missed a trick there. Single 3 pin TO-3, 3.3V in 33V @ 0.3mA out. The number of applications .. Photodiode drivers, TV tuners, low power LED lamps, etc etc.

Other amusing hacks: using an HV850 EL driver IC (+/-55V) to get a stable and relatively clean HV supply if run at say 500Hz. Vary the input pulse width to change the voltage.

Am I on crack, or would an open collector driver IC (eg ULN2003) be a good way to get stepped 0 to 33V for say a TV tuner? Not the most space efficient but would work.
