Great work on category learning in mice, looking for category-selective neurons in mPFC. In particular, I liked Fig. 4, in which the authors experimentally disambiguate truly category-selective neurons from those related to things that co-vary with categories (such as reward).👏
Can mice learn rules for categorization? Is prefrontal cortex involved? Our new study, open access in @nature, characterizes category representations in mouse PFC using chronic 2p imaging. (1/5) @mpi_neuro @xpieter @t_bonhoeffer @MHuebener

Finally, building the bridge between morphology and function. Light-sheet responses of the inferior olive neurons and their terminals in the cerebellum, when overlaid with morphological maps, show a nice correspondence! Check these beautiful maps by @daniobrain.

Do these cells receive monocular or binocular inputs? To answer this, @ritallfelix showed stimuli to left and right eyes separately. Turns out, most (not all) of the cells are binocular, and sometimes have opposing preferred directions, which makes them perfect rotation detectors

This directional selectivity in the inferior olive is spatially organized. For example, cells that prefer forward motion (green) tend to be located rostrally.

We then recorded activity of the inferior olive neurons in response to translational and rotational whole-field motion at different directions. These cells responded nicely to these stimuli and were quite direction-selective. This was a really great time in Lisbon.

This was the first year of my PhD. I was sitting at a confocal and electroporating inferior olive neurons @PortuguesLab. There were at least two distinct types of neurons that differ in dendritic morphology, location within the olive and projection patterns.

Interested in morphology and activity of the inferior olive neurons in larval zebrafish? Check out the recent results of a wonderful collaboration led by @ritallfelix and me supervised by @daniobrain, @PortuguesLab & @meganinlisbon. https://t.co/GTgUUpRQFF

Let this be my first retweet
This work is finally out in @NatureComms! With Daniil Markov (first author) and @anki_xyz Check out this preprint thread if you're interested in knowing what the heck the cerebellum could be doing in the larval #zebrafish Or have a look at the paper: https://t.co/vjWEKfa29y
