What about sampling from the whole state?. Sampling maps to monitored quantum circuit dynamics, which is known to undergo measurement-induced phase transitions to easy phases. We can construct a family of states interpolating from a provably hard to an easy phase. 🧵 4/5.

Computing local expectation values in isoTNS requires simulating a 1D circuit of channels. Forcing isoTNS to be ground states of a local Hamiltonian adds depolarizing noise to this circuit, which eventually drives it to an easy phase. 🧵 3/5.

Without restrictions, isoTNS are BQP-complete (you can make them run any quantum circuit). However, when we force them to be ground states of local frustration free Hamiltonians, they eventually undergo a phase transition to an easy phase!. Why? . 🧵2/5.

If you add measurement + feedback, the preparation time is exponentially reduced from log N to loglog N, and you can prepare long-range correlated (non-normal MPS) in the same depth.

Our circuits are simple and intuitive, and (probably) have little overhead, so that circuit depth is considerably reduced from linear circuits, already for small systems.

📢 new preprint just out: Preparation of matrix product states with log-depth quantum circuits. We give an explicit circuit to prepare normal MPS (aka unique ground states of local gapped Hamiltonians) and prove it's asymptotically optimal.
