In today’s video I give a more detailed look at the current implementation of gameplay abilities in my game project!.

In case anyone is interested, I found this example where the event is called in the damage execution:

Can anyone familiar with the unreal engine gameplay ability system tell me how to best handle death? I have a health attribute and a damage effect. My death ability should trigger via a gameplay event, but where is it called? In my attribute setter, or the damage effect perhaps?.

I'm finally starting to understand unreal engines game ability system. I think good visualizations of it's architecture would greatly help beginners get the concept. Most resources rely on descriptions and code, which took me some time to fully grasp.

When an early process needs to be revised, you mark that node as dirty and immediately get to see what other tasks need to be reworked. Ideally this would naturally work together with versions management and clicking on nodes could link to relevant folders and files.

Imagine a game asset pipeline. The graph would summarize the process visually but obviously it can't do the work for you. As the artist does the work, they get to mark nodes as done. This is great because. .

Does anyone want to develop a productivity app? Here is what I'm looking for. An app where you can graph node based processes, but where the work itself is done by humans. For example. .

UE has a "From Two Vectors" node that allows me to find the quaternion between two forward vectors, but the up vector (roll in other words) is not accounted for. Unfortunately control rig does many nodes available for rotation math. .

I am having some troubles with control rig rotations in Unreal Engine. I have two objects and I know their forward and up vectors in world space. I need to find the quaternion that will align the source object to the target.

Also, if I create a child blueprint from my control rig setup, the parent class construct and forward solve do not seem to be called. Probably using it wrong, but there doesn't seem to be any reliable documentation.

Does anyone know how to make UE control rig truly modular without additional setup? Dynamic hierarchy makes spawning of controls possible, but passing the references from constructor to forward solve requires variables. Metadata works but not sure if supposed to be used that way.

I have committed to taking my drivers license in Japanese! Wish me good luck. No more Unreal Engine studies after work for a while 🥲.

Does anyone know good resources to learn about game framework development with Unreal Engine? Things like game mode, game state, progression, game save, etc. Very interested in what the best practices are for that aspect of game architecture.

Would anyone be interested in joining an unreal engine related study group? Maybe a private discord server or something? I miss a school like atmosphere where there are others around. I work at a studio professionally, but you know how restricting it can be at times….

Of course, attributes and nodes in Maya couldn't just have a unique name, instead they must have a short name, a long name, a nice name, an alias, sometimes a DAG path, but don't even think about relying on that, because not all nodes are DAG nodes. Who came up with this? 😅.

It's funny how life can be just like an RPG, where on the skill tree you pay with time instead of skill orbs.

I would love to see more emphasis on good lighting, compositing, colors etc. in video games. Cinematic VFX still seems miles ahead, and not necessarily from a technical standpoint but an artistic one. Isn't it an extremely effective way to instantly up the visual appeal?.
