I am glad the Minister for Housing has used one of my policy suggestions from my opinion posted in the Chronicle in August 2024. Hopefully more of my suggestions can be considered and implemented in the future.

It is too early to conclude that Feetham’s property tax announced in last year’s budget was a failure, but there are signs. Land Registration and Stamp Duty significantly down compared to previous years. Property prices are still the same. Where are the benefits of the measure?

My concern is whether a Bank would lend money for the purchase of a property that can only be sold back to the Company (at index linked price), and how the Company would fund the buy-back. Otherwise, it could be a good initiative to rejuvenate old properties in the old town.
