My favourite of the web of deranged 'Yookay' myths is the idea that London is dirtier now than it was. It is literally the cleanest it has been in my entire lifetime! That's what gentrification is, and does. But then apparently the poster is Lebanese, so how would he know?
Isn’t that London is now an unliveable hellhole, it is still Basically Fine in many parts - is more that it is undergoing a process of ‘enshittification’ where quality of life on certain metrics gets slowly worse over time. So you can tolerate it but things are worse than before

I’ve curated many exhibitions but never thought I would be in one..! Congrats to @KasiaTee & @danhancox for their @CursedObjectsUK exhibition about museum shops at the @peltzgallery. Some of the museum pens which I’ve been collecting since I was a child are featured. Go see it!

Echoing @Jodi7768 recommendation to buy @danhancox superb new book exploring how the popular perception of crowds being inherently violent is based on 19th-century pseudoscience and why elites are terrified of mass social movements, which I reviewed for @BooksinFive below! 1/5

3/ Drawing inspiration from Dan Hancox in Multitudes, we see that isolation isn’t a bug — it’s a deliberate design to control us. The forces that profit from our atomization have long underestimated the power of collective celebration. #ResistAtomization

Cannot recommend this new @VersoBooks book by @danhancox highly enough. There is something fascinating on every page. I have been wearily, bitterly jealous of Dan’s excellent journalism for years and this has only added to that

"Eloquent and soulful... sparklingly written" - thanks @Alex_Niven for this excellent embrace of the crowd, reviewing my latest book Multitudes in @tribunemagazine
tribunemag.co.uk
The Left tends to celebrate the crowd only in limited and conditional ways. A new book by Dan Hancox aims to reclaim the mass gathering for the 2020s.

"The nameless oppressed are who Benjamin wanted us to honour: the many tens of thousands of civilians killed in Gaza and in Sudan. The many more who have died trying to cross the Mediterranean, or beneath the crenellations of Fortress Europe" @danhancox

Magnificent piece by @danhancox in @ft on Walter Benjamin “It is more difficult to honour the memory of the anonymous than that of the renowned. Historical construction is devoted to the memory of the anonymous.” There is still work to be done!
