I think I simultaneously completely get why Penn State had to fire James Franklin while also thinking it's an (at least short-term) crazy move to make.

This is crazy for a multitude of reasons, most notably that they have coached the same amount of games against Top 25 teams?

It might sound harsh, but it does really feel like James Franklin's entire legacy as a coach will be boiled down to the commitment to Drew Allar. You can say this is hindsight (not sure I'd agree), but coaches are judged on hindsight. Fortune favors the bold.

It's very early, and Pickett is probably the second-best QB in Pitt history whose senior season is going to be nearly impossible for any other Pitt QB to reach. But hard to not feel like Heintschel, right now, is multiple levels ahead of where freshman Kenny Pickett was.

For all the fair criticism of Pat Narduzzi, his staff's ability to find elite talent that the recruiting sites don't rank as such has been the program's one true lifeblood.
