We are seeking postdoctoral scholars funded by the NIH Chemosensory Training Program (CTP) and the Vice-President for Research at FSU. CTP is a very unique training program in chemosensory neuroscience at FSU with 30+ years of history. For details, see: https://t.co/hL1ucxdyeG

On cloud nine to announce that I'll be starting my lab at the Department of Biological Science, Florida State University in Spring 2026! We'll study neuronal circuits and sensory-guided behavior by combining comparative and functional approaches using non-model Drosophila flies.

Having more sensory neurons sounds beneficial for perception and behavior, but is it? If so, how? Check out our new publication for some new theories. https://t.co/zc9PcpbNVJ

After 5+ years of defending my thesis, my second PhD project on axon guidance & tactile behavior is now available as a #ReviewedPreprint at @eLife. Credit goes to many talented members in Aki Nose's lab who continued the work! https://t.co/6pU9ZUKUqw

Very excited to share this piece of work from my postdoctoral project together with @tomtom_auer, @bentonlab, and so many fantastic collaborators!
New preprint: Suguru Takagi (@d_takagii) and Tom Auer (@tomtom_auer) - with many great collaborators - solve a simple (but actually hard) problem: how does having more sensory neurons for a given odour help an animal? The answer was unexpected ... 👇

Does Tas1r3 have a functional role? What valence do the gustatory sensory neurons expressing Tas1r3 encode? Are there other mammalian species that have lost the sense of sweetness?

Apparantly cats cannot detect sweetness of sugars presumably due to pseudogenization of Tas1r2 gene, which encodes one of the subunits of sweet receptor. Interestingly, Tas1r3, which encodes the other subunit, seems to be expressed in the taste buds. https://t.co/34uNRFM9Mr

Since I got myself a cat (who loves to try to steal my breakfast maritozzo), I became curious if cats are genuinely indifferent to sweetness.
