It’s 03.37am, and I’m on my 6th night shift in 10 days. As student midwives, we work the full time hours of a qualified professional, totally unpaid, at the same time work alongside it to earn money, attend uni, write assignments, and live lives. Being an NHS student is no joke

Can’t believe I’ve nearly finished my first year of Midwifery degree! That has flown by … 😬 A third of the way to becoming a fully qualified scary grown-up midwife. Not sure I feel brave enough for that yet. Please can I stay a baby first year student forever ?!

HOW has it taken this long for me to read Sarah Waters ?! This might have to be one of the best and most cleverly plotted historical fiction novels I’ve ever read. Now excuse me while I immediately go and buy her entire back catalogue … 😬

Forgive the sentimental post, but in amidst the absolute chaos, 13 hour shifts, essay-writing, and intense academics that is training to become a midwife, there are also days like today where the honour of looking after vulnerable women is immense. The most magical vocation. ❤️

Bought both of these in an independent bookshop in Suffolk, after asking them vaguely “What do you recommend?” Both books have been absolute stonkers. That’s one of the most brilliant things about indie booksellers. They always just GET you. And that’s why they’re important.

The prospect of seeing ANY theatre production makes me feel all warm and cosy inside. But the prospect of seeing a stage adaptation of a favourite book from childhood is on a whole other level 🩰

Got to see the fantastic new play #Lyonesse last night @HPinterTheatre with BREATHTAKING Kristin Scott-Thomas and Lily James. Raised some seriously pertinent questions about power, abuse, and how to bring down the embedded state of patriarchy in the home and workplace. Wow. 😱

Just watched the first series of #LandGirls @primevideouk … Just as charming, moving, and Sunday-night-with-a-gin-and-tonic as I hoped it would be 🥰 And DEFINITELY had a double-take-and-giggle moment when 5 minutes in, a familiar face appeared unexpectedly @sophieannaward 🤣

It’s very hard to meet @clarebalding and not drop into a full floor curtsy.🤣Such an inspiration to me, as to soooo many others too. Thank you for an absolutely wonderful evening @Ely_Cathedral @ToppingsEly and for being patient enough to listen to my Lost Dog dachshund story !

It’s always a bit nerve-wracking seeing one of your favourite characters of all time portrayed on stage. But oh wow. @jennarusselluk brings Mrs Harris to life with such tenderness, quiet steel, cuddliness, and gentle good humour. A true masterclass, and a serious tear jerker

Tomorrow, I pack up my life and relocate for 3 years to pursue a lifelong dream. I’ve never really understood the concept of a “new chapter” before. But that’s exactly what it feels like. A new chapter. A whole new book on a new bookshelf. A fresh start. Grief, be gone.♥️

Today I was asked to do someone’s online shopping for them. The list: Sherry, Marzipan, Strawberries, Jumbo Prawns. I don’t know this person, but I already think they’re superb.

And finally #GinzelsLittleCordoba from @VindicateThe - @RenaBrannan is an outrageously masterful playwright. To be able to switch from a belly laugh to a thought-provoking, moving statement with such dizzying rapidity, and yet so astutely, is a magnificent skill.
