As explained in the thread below, I'm taking a break from here for the time being. After trying the various other platforms I've settled on 🟦sky. Now that it has hashtags it seems (in my opinion) to be functionally the best alternative should that become necessary. 🙂

I'm not using this platform at the moment but just wanted to say that I've started a newsletter where I'll be writing a bit more about Japanese folklore and culture. Just the intro post for now but it's a start. Otherwise I'm on 🟦sky. https://t.co/lTaIaAxBsP

In Japanese mythology Ebisu is the god of fishermen, good luck and small children. Born without bones, he was cast into the sea as a child. Miraculously he managed to survive, grow bones and return as a god, later becoming one of the seven lucky gods of Japan. #FolkloreThursday

'My Neighbour Totoro' is an award-winning animated film by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli made in 1988. Miyazaki had originally planned to call the film 'The Ghost Beside Me.' It captures beautifully the magic nostalgia of childhood. More images in thread.👇 #WyrdWednesday 1/4

"She is the Great Queen and if any Goddess is currently calling me, it is her. If there is a Goddess on whose shoulders you could cry those tears of grief and loss, it is Rhiannon. There is a linguistic link between the ocean, and the soul. Rhiannon’s Birds sing out to sea. They

Crane The red-crowned crane, with its pure feathers and elegant form, holds a special place in Chinese culture. Symbolizing longevity and purity, it's often depicted in paintings with pines for good health. In Taoism, the "immortal crane" carries immortals, 1/2

In ancient Chinese legends sheep are magically linked to rain. In an ancient tale called Transcendent Marriage of Dongting Lake洞庭靈姻傳, a flock of sheep under a tree are actually rainmakers-when they eat grass, they are making rain. #folktale #story 🖼️by Ma Jin馬晉

Because I love both cats and #PreRaphaelite art, I thought I'd share this selection of illustrations from 'Pre-Raphaelites Cats' by Susan Herbert alongside the original artworks that inspired them. The first one is 'The Daydream' by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, 1880. #Caturday 1/10
