The DBR comprises 5 pairs of undoped and highly Si-doped GaN deposited via MOVPE. The as-grown epilayers are electrochemically etched, which selectively porosifies the Si-doped GaN to produce alternating, non-porous and porous GaN layers.

Maruf created this 3D reconstruction of a porous GaN distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) via tomographic FIB-SEM. Through an iteration of FIB sectioning and SEM imaging, followed by image reconstruction, one can map 3D nanostructure from a sequence of 2D sections.
