The @RickRubin book (The Creative Act) has an incredible amount of these nuggets: "Living life as an artist is a practice. You are either engaging in the practice or you’re not. It makes no sense to say you’re not good at it. It’s like saying, “I’m not good at being a monk.” You

How do people have so much to say? I dated a girl once who loved to talk on the phone and by talk on the phone I mean she talked on the phone, at me. I would literally lay down and lay the phone on the pillow next to me head and she'd talk for an hour. Are some people just

If you ever wondered what "trust the process" looks like in real-time, watch @marcrebillet create "Get Up" from the beginning. A hilarious, musical masterpiece + robe. https://t.co/Y84MvKBVJg.

Things take time. You don’t yell at paint for drying slowly, urging it to hurry up because you have guests coming over. You finish painting with enough time for it to do what it’s going to do. (thanks for this, @dailystoic) You can control what you spend your time on, don't

The upside-down funnel discovery approach. When exploring a new business idea, I try to be cognizant of what I consume and study someone who is doing a good job. When I find that person, it often leads to finding others in the same space and then all of sudden I have a myriad

The Knowing-Doing Gap is that frustrating space between understanding what you should do and actually doing it, often hindered by procrastination, fear, or lack of focus. Now that you know, what are you going to do?

Man, I really need to start working on that live-edge bench I've been meaning to make. *11.8 months later* Man, I really need to start working on that live-edge bench I've been meaning to make. Sound like you? You suffer from the Knowing-Doing Gap like most humans👇

Long-term gains might require short-term discomfort. You might have a sore-ass but that leg-workout will pay dividends.

An exercise for you to lead you into the weekend... 1. Get a blank sheet of paper or a blank doc on your computer. 2. Set a timer for 30 mins. 3. Word vomit ideas onto the page, no holds barred. Something intriguing may come out of the catacombs of your front cortex.

The hot dog-eating legend, Takeru Kobayashi, revolutionized the eating contest. He figured out that if he separated the bun and dog and then dipped the bun in water, he can swallow much easier. Huge projects can seem daunting until you break them up into bite-sized pieces. 🌭

How did we, as intelligent apes, figure out space travel? Or the internet? Or why woodpeckers don't get headaches (look it up)? Experimentation. What discoveries could you make in your life just by being curious and trying things?

Remember that Seinfeld episode where George decided to do the opposite of everything he normally does? In that episode, everything worked out for him when it normally doesn't. The lesson: it may take a pivot to move forward. "Nothing's ever worked for me with tuna on toast."

I'm a runner and I've been in several races. There is this concept called "Goal Gradient Effect" where, in the running analogy, we start fast, cruise in the middle, and speed up towards the goal. So goes for life, so keep cruising because the runner high is coming!

Everything is a funnel. Fill up the funnel with thoughts, ideas, insights and something great may pop out the other end. Granted, you may be in the top part of the funnel for years but there is certainly an exit at the bottom.
