The 2005 Daytona 500 was on FS2 last night, and man...all I can say is, man. Let's do a compare and contrast with how the race sounded with 5 laps to go in 2005...
Yesterday's race was one of the worst Cup broadcasts that I can remember, but failing to mention that this was going on while promoting Kevin's podcast and having his kid come up instead takes the cake.
"Oh, it took a little while to get Jones out of the car" isn't good enough.
"This would be the perfect time for IndyCar to stop tripping over its tail and solidify its firm stance as the country's premier open wheel racing series."
IndyCar tomorrow, probably:
I used to be vehemently opposed to winning Cup drivers in lower series, I thought that it stunk up the races and unfairly took chances from the regulars.
But more and more, I'm thinking the Trucks need an authoritarian/dictatorship rule, and Kyle needs to go scorched Earth.
CBS: We're sending our full crews around the country to small tracks to cover the fun run series of 13 car races
NASCAR on FOX: yeah nah we're just gonna do studio broadcasts for most of the rest of the season
THROWBACK WEEK
Low budget teams: Here is our 99% accurate portrayal of an absurdly oddball paint scheme that features our current sponsors in place of the original one. We even changed our team logo!
Cup Championship-level teams: The original car also featured the color blue.
All three races this weekend had something happen on the white flag lap, all three got zero replays or coverage of the incident, all three only interviewed the top three finishers, absolute piss poor job from FOX
A great piece of 1990s ARCA lore: The call and video of the '96 Winchester race finish, where Scott Neal and his team completed the trifecta of trouble:
☑️ Dump the leader at the line but fail to win
☑️ Hijack the celebration while the crowd boos
☑️ Fight everyone in the infield
I'm okay with the Trump limo doing a lap at Daytona tomorrow - but only if he drives it, and from this point on, each president has to bring it for the 500 each year for a hot lap, with a leaderboard posted on the wall in Oval Office of fastest presidential times.
I'll take the plunge.
If you're an F1 driver, that doesn't automatically make you the greatest in the world. It makes you the greatest at driving Formula-style cars/tracks. A theoretical best overall driver label has to go to someone that excels in more than one category of car.
I’ve said this for a few years… In my opinion
@KyleLarsonRacin
right now is the best race car driver on the planet right now.
It’s like
@TonyStewart
passed the torch to him.
I'll be honest. My sole memory of Bob K, like a lot of the younger-ish people on here, was of him getting ready to roll up on Carl Edwards as a dad on ESPN back in the day, I wasn't really around as a fan in his driving years.
That doesn't make him any less cool or legendary.
NASCAR and/or Lionel have gotta something about the diecast situation. Prices moving forward are $10 for a 1/64 scale and $65 for a $1/24, plus it takes 8-11 months for a car to be produced. That's just not acceptable.
If it's all due to delays with China, bring it home. Enough.
After his primary got destroyed in the last race by a guy in a JGR car having a bad day, he exasperatedly admitted he might be done driving for a while. TV announcers sort of scoffed at that notion and played it off as a little speed bump in his season.

"Van Gisbergen said that watching video of last year’s race the event “looked like a demolition derby by the way they race. It’s crazy, but apparently it’s like that every week.”"
SVG nailing the Truck series 😂
"Oh boy, qualified 3rd for an Indy race at Michigan! I sure hope Team Brazil doesn't wipe me out for no reason before we even get to the start/finish line!"
I made this a while back, and the guy who bought it had several other joker cars from other custom guys as part of a collection.
My understanding is that he has since passed away. No idea what happened to his stuff. If you ever see it pop up anywhere, let me know. Just curious.

@NASCAR
Digital Media, I beg of you, either keep Racing Reference updated or set it free, this is ridiculous. A bunch of series were never finished last year, and they don't even have Daytona up and processed for any of this weekend's events. And driver's pages looking like this
ARCA announces that in the event of inclement weather on Saturday and their race is postponed, their event although a “moving target” is slated for 9:00am Monday.

Hey, remember when Hailie Deegan and Jordan Anderson almost won Daytona? Ryan Newman barrel rolled across the finish of the 500? The Truck series put a bounty on Kyle Busch? Bowman won Fontana?
What year was that?
