Truth! The best kept secret in CFB is that scout team is the best development environment other than snaps. If players had the humility to play scout team, they will develop faster than watching the 1’s get 90% of the practice reps and 100% of the snaps. Do the math.
@CoryRAanalytics Could one say that many players don’t want to take the time to develop? If they don’t play their first year in the team many jump in the portal to find a “play now” situation

Talent evaluation is always a gamble because you’re projecting. In theory it’s easier to project portal vs. HS prospects because of the competition. If the HC is given grace to build, more programs would invest in developing players vs. betting on the portal as a stop gap.
@CoryRAanalytics Everyone wants to win "yesterday" they don't have the patience to develop players so they gamble on what they think is potential and production. This approach is always a gamble. Players get in new schemes and struggle most of the time
