Veteran acquisitions that haven't made the expected impact on their new NFL teams this season via @CBSSports. https://t.co/qr6DKbR61I

Geno Smith and Justin Fields are two players who haven't worked out so far in 2025

Not a lot of bang for buck with Tee Higgins, who is the NFL's highest paid #2 WR at $28.75M per year. Higgins is on track for 51 receptions, 623 receiving yards & 6 TDs. Joe Burrow getting hurt in the 2nd game of the season is a mitigating factor.

Bijan Robinson is on pace to become the 1st NFL player with at least 1,500 rushing yards & 1,000 receiving yards in the same season. It's still the case with a 16-game season instead of a 17-game season.

Brandon Aubrey will be a restricted free agent in 2026. I did a deep dive on his situation about a month ago via @CBSSports. https://t.co/n4nJdNLpgm

Aubrey's powerful leg should net him a record $7 million per year, surpassing Chiefs' Harrison Butker

@corryjoel Is there another tag to use on Aubrey? Because most of the league should throw money at him if he's unrestricted.

George Pickens is a prime candidate for a franchise tag next year. The 2026 WR number should be over $27M.

Pat Freiermuth has become an expensive 3rd TE. He's in the 1st new year of a 4-year contract extension averaging $12.1M per year signed right before the start of the 2024 regular season.

Yes. The top of TE market hasn't kept up with increase in the salary cap since George Kittle signed for $15M per year in 2020. The TE market has moved 27.3% while the cap has gone up 40.9%.

@corryjoel Given cap increases you couldn’t see LaPorta exceeding McBride’s deal?

There aren't any $20M per year TEs. Trey McBride is at $19M per year. Technically, George Kittle's $19.1M average makes him the highest paid TE. Realistically, it's $18M per year. I doubt Kittle sees the last year with $22.4M when he is 36.

@corryjoel 24 might be ambitious, 22 would be a win but I bet his agent starts at 24

Typically, the team acquires what's left in the contract. For example, the Seahawks don't fully guarantee money upon signing after the 1st year. Seattle would be accepting fully guaranteed money in the 3rd year if acquiring a player with contract structured like that.

Hey @corryjoel the thought occurred - do teams often just 'accept' the contract of an acquired player and move forward? Or do they draft a whole new contract with the same terms but have team-specific policies put in place (like workout bonuses language, etc) ?

Jake Browning has played himself out of a RFA tender in 2026. The lowest 2026 RFA with just matching rights since Browning was an undrafted free agent should be in $3.5M to $3.6M range.

Devin Lloyd is making the most of the Jaguars declining his 5th year in 2026 for $14.751M by being the AFC Defensive Player of the Month.

Puka Nacua is on track for 179 receptions & 2,138 receiving yards. The pace isn't sustainable. It would be interesting if Nacua could set the single record for receptions and/or receiving yards considering he is eligible for a contract extension when this regular season ends.

Several stars secured extensions, but Jones, Pickens and others have plenty riding on 2025.

Tyler Smith got CeeDee Lamb's type of guarantee vesting rather than DaRon Bland's. His injury guarantees in 2027, 2028 & 2029 become fully guaranteed early (on the 5th day of the 2026, 2027 & 2028 league years).

The salary cap hit. The 49ers will be getting $411,765 of cap & cash relief because Nick Bosa won't be earning any more of his 2025 per game roster bonuses. BTW, SF has gotten $3,330,876 of cap relief from Brandon Aiyuk missing 10 games last season due to his knee injury.

@corryjoel does the insurance policy effect the cap hit or just cash flow?
