The problem was that he was too nice and kind, a believer in old fashioned “Political Chivalry” even if he was firmly to the right. His mistake was not treating these people like the Demons they actually are. I think people have woken up to that fact.

Never really grew up knowing much about Pat. Finally started reading through “Hitler, Churchill and the Unnecessary war” last year.
Man, we missed out on such a great thinker. Could’ve had it all.

I remember this speech very well. It was sharp-elbowed even back then. And Bush rose in the polls after it, despite what later revisionists have said.
But the media and Hollywood hated it. They reacted almost immediately. I also remember that.

I can’t even imagine a modern Pat rising up now. He would have to be steeped in American and English history, understand politics proper, and have the marbles to fight for the moral sanctity of the nation.

In most Western nations there have been potential leaders from time to time who have gone against the 2-party consensus & would have made a real difference. But voters were too oblivious or brow-beaten or timid to choose these alternatives.
Voters need to step up.
