I usually use CrystalDiskMark to test SSDs in various workloads, but I tried DiskSpd for the first time when testing Native NVMe, and it's pretty great. Really love the detailed output. IOPS, throughout, CPU usage, latency.

Here are my results testing Native NVMe in Windows 11 on the Crucial T700 Gen5 SSD (w/ 9800X3D/5090.) Tested in 5 games, in synthetic benchmarks in DiskSpd which are meant to simulate real life workloads, and in CrystalDiskMark.

Essentially, they load and evict assets from memory as needed. They seem to do this more efficiently/aggressively than other games, but this requires heavy use of fast storage.

Speaking of AW2, it has the highest peak & avg disk IO bandwidth I've tested in any game. Despite having very high quality textures & dense geometry, it has very low memory usage for a AAA game. Devs talk about streaming from disk & how memory is handled: https://t.co/QMzURSRYaD

Although this doesn't boost gaming perf by itself, the improved storage stack in Windows 11 (IO Rings, BypassIO, Native NVMe) along with DirectStorage will hopefully motivate devs to better take advantage of NVMe SSDs. I hope this will ultimately culminate in P2PDMA support.

I've enabled Native NVMe on Windows 11. The drives are now correctly listed under 'Storage Disks' in Device Manager, whereas before they were under 'Disk Drives.' Before there were also mentions of "SCSI" but not after enabling Native NVMe. Should have some results tomorrow.

The visuals in Resident Evil Requiem look great. The game will support path tracing and DLSS 4. https://t.co/gRsdGYnjsc

The increase in IOPS on 4K random reads is nice, but I wonder what the increase would be in 64K random reads, as that is the workload that games typically rely on.

Interesting. Windows Server 2025 gets native NVMe support which results in ~80% more IOPS and a ~45% savings in CPU cycles per I/O on 4K random read workloads. Would love to see this properly supported on Windows 11. https://t.co/t6hpGUfugc

Testing Unreal Engine 5.7 in this Venice, Italy demo. The visuals look great and performance is pretty good, even on the RTX 4060 at appropriate settings. https://t.co/fmyWCdBCvl

Very impressed with the Pragmata demo. Runs well even on a 4060 with ray tracing enabled (1080p.) A very well optimized game, at least in the area available in the demo. https://t.co/oUos1n9pv2

This will likely not benefit gaming on Linux in any way, but if P2PDMA were to function correctly in Windows, I'm sure it would be used in DirectStorage titles. AMD's "Smart Access Storage" was supposed to allow for direct NVMe SSD to GPU transfer, but that feature never released
