It was really awesome to recently talk with @mattwatsonkc on the Product Driven Podcast about how feedback is at the heart of an effective development process.

Continuing my series on more effective testing I've got a new post up about data-driven test generation. Capturing data & generating tests is a much faster way to get your code under test than if you were writing code for each of your tests.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about how to build & test my distributed synchronizing database. I have a blog post out now talking about some of the work that is going into this.

I officially know how to AWS!. I'm now an AWS Certified Developer Associate. It was more difficult than I expected, I had studied for several months and I put the exam off for a month so I could feel more confident. But now I know more about AWS than I will probably ever need 😁

Last year I spent some time figuring out how to generate automated tests from OpenAPI/Swagger files. I've written up my work in a post that's now on the AppSignal blog:

They also convinced me that the title of the book isn't helping people see the value of it, and after brainstorming we decided on a new name that gets much closer to the heart of what the book is really about.

Whilst I'm proud that I was able to produce such a high quality book just on my own, I couldn't help but take the challenge to work with Manning again and with their help take this book up to 5 stars.

I had shown the manuscript to Manning, one thing led to another and then I had detailed feedback from a focus group of developers who hadĀ rated the book at 4 out of 5 stars. They also gave feedback on how I could get the book to 5 stars.

Hope you all are having a wonderful festive season and the new year is bringing you great things. For the past three years I've been writing Rapid Fullstack Development and in 2024 I had practically finished it. I was about to down tools when a review came back from my publisher.

This year I tried contract testing and Pact, but it was all too complicated. Then I spent some months making my own simplified version of contract testing. You can use this as well, if you want the benefits of contract testing with much less hassle.

Earlier this year I got up close with a microservices disaster. From what I learned, I wrote this article. It's a public service announcement to help others benefit from microservices whilst avoiding the disaster zone.
