Participants at the Birmingham CFO Activity were thrilled to witness the long-awaited launch of ‘Second Chance Cuts’ this week! This is in an in-Hub barber shop which is led by participants, upskilling them and increasing employability prospects, which helps to reduce reoffence.

Rory* had been hampered by frequent housing issues throughout his life. At the Liverpool CFO Activity Hub he worked with an expert in housing law, finding suitable living, and his rights. This support helps to reduce re-offence by eliminating barriers in participants' lives.

World Mental Health Day is about raising awareness of mental health and driving positive change for everyone’s mental health. CFO programmes offer a wide variety of interventions which both directly and indirectly support positive mental health, including drama, walks and more!

Today is World Dyslexia Awareness Day, bringing into focus the need for accessible services. CFO programmes help participants with dyslexia (and more) to upskill themselves, building confidence in their abilities and aiding the rehabilitative journey.

Following on from the success of their ‘Beyond Bars’ event, the West Midlands CFO Activity Hubs hosted an Open Mic event in Birmingham. One participant who came to watch the show said: “The performances are amazing, to listen to other people's stories makes me feel less alone.”

The Dudley Pop-Up CFO Activity Hub has been focusing on mindfulness techniques, indoor gardening and yoga over the past few weeks, to help participants find a better way to connect and communicate with one another. Engagement has been high, and a big success!

Two participants from the Manchester CFO Activity Hub won a platinum award in the 2023 Koestler Awards - the highest commendation available! These pieces were an intricate art piece and a radio play - both of the participants are incredibly proud of their achievement!

Remembrance Day is a very important calendar event for many of our participants, not least the veterans at the HMP Holme House CFO Activity Hub. A group of 12 veterans have been getting ready for Remembrance Day by glittering poppies. The group have already completed over 1,000!

Having identified the need for mental health and drug and alcohol support within the HMP Holme House CFO Activity Hub, ITS are now delivering courses to participants. Courses have been deemed timely by participants, and they have had high praise for the interventions so far!
