After a working lunch at the Elysée, Macron and Zelensky hit the phones - calling Starmer, Witkoff & Umerov, then a group call with several European allies inc. Germany, Finland, Italy & Poland. They also spoke with Rutte and Von der Leyen. Stressing the need for “lasting peace”

Congratulations to Haiti’s national team for qualifying for the World Cup — the first time in 50+ years. Even more perfect that it was achieved on the day marking the decisive battle in the Haitian revolution. It’s a reminder of what Haiti can accomplish when people come

Pressure will also inevitably mount on French President Emmanuel Macron to resign (he doesn’t have to, he’s elected to office until 2027). But France has had 5 prime ministers since September 2024 and successive governments keep collapsing as this political crisis rolls on #f24

Sarkozy has a some time before being taken to jail. He just spoke outside the courtroom saying «I will sleep in prison but with my head held high». Sarkozy is the first ever ex-French president to actually go to jail. He’s had an electronic tag & suspended sentence before.

A thunderbolt ⚡️in French Politics. Former President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to serve 5 years in prison. He was just convicted of criminal conspiracy for receiving millions of euros from Libyan leader Muamar Gaddafi. He’s expected to appeal from jail.

An abject cruelty, an unlimited inhumanity: this is what Hamas embodies. The unbearable images showing Israeli hostages held in Gaza remind us of this horror. We think with deep emotion of Evyatar David, Rom Braslavski, all the hostages

Ahlam, located in southern Gaza, is holding on “to testify” as long as she can. “Every time I leave the tent to cover an event, do an interview or document a story, I don’t know if I’ll come back alive.” Her biggest issue, she confirms, is the lack of food and water. /8

AFP no longer has the ability to provide them with a vehicle and there is not enough fuel to allow these journalists to travel for their reporting. Driving a car means becoming a target for Israeli airstrikes. AFP reporters therefore travel on foot or by donkey cart. /7

Even though these journalists receive a monthly salary from AFP, it’s no longer enough to buy food, or they have to pay completely exorbitant prices. The banking system has collapsed, and those who exchange money via online bank accounts charge a commission of up to 40%. /6
