A blackout isn’t complete without my father reminiscing about the time he had to do his second year law exams by candlelight during the Miners’ Strike. He remains elusive on whether these exams were done with a wax tablet and stylus.

Along a similar vein, the Ulster Museum has a really interesting exhibition on the use of textiles (arpilleras) to depict conflict and forced disappearances from Argentina, Rwanda, Chile, Spain and elsewhere
I had the opportunity to visit the Sunflower Project’s exhibition, on the experiences of women and girls in Northern Ireland’s Mother and Baby Homes through the use of art and textiles, in Linen Hall Library today. A great opportunity to focus on individual stories!

I don’t know what’s richer, the paywall, the photograph from Bessborough MBH in an article about Magdalene Laundries, or the implication that the closure of the Laundries drew a line under a part of Ireland’s past that has continued, real-world consequences.
How closure of the last Magdalene laundry 28 years ago ended shameful chapter in Irish history https://t.co/fQCzT4VobN

Breaching and entering a UN position is a further flagrant violation of international law and Security Council resolution 1701 (2006). Any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and resolution 1701.

I have a map for this
Mother and Baby Homes issue on @drivetimerte again referencing Tuam as if it's the only institution involved. Literally thousands of children in other institutions. No one seems to discuss where they are or what will become of them.

Having your twenty-year-old sister call you old and then give you career advice is a truly humbling experience that I recommend everyone try at least one @honormcc_

Today we break the habit of lifetime and give a talk on health and human rights from the front of the lecture theatre rather than hide in the back (I’m forty-five minutes early)

In 1993 when the Srs of Our Lady of Charity exhumed 155 women to make way for a property development, Nell McCafferty was amongst the few who put their heads above the parapet to call this out for what it was. Rest in power 💜

First day of the Féile, and my personal playground of the Discussion and Debates programme, off to a brilliant start! It was a privilege to hear Blinne Ní Ghralaigh speak about her life and career.
The fantastic new College Hall at @StMarys_Belfast for the discussion with Padraig O Muirigh and Blinne Ní Ghralaigh on Palestine. 🇵🇸
