Really exciting to take part in this podcast with Alicia from Wild Chai, talking about wonderful Hounslow, and why it’s such a great place to do business. Thanks to Ian Whittaker for being such a generous host. https://t.co/UlWbrnNJtG

Cricket, like life, is certainly not perfect. But both are certainly improving. And although we might take knocks, let’s not forget the bigger picture: that long, patient march towards a fairer, more inclusive Britain - one step, one story, one quiet milestone at a time.🌹🇬🇧

Hans Rosling once said: “Does saying ‘things are improving’ imply that everything is fine, and we should all relax and not worry? No, not at all.” Things can be “both bad and better. Better and bad, at the same time.”

Yet moments like 2019, or Hameed’s achievement, remind us that perhaps progress doesn’t come in one single event or one great leap forward, but rather a drip, drip, drip - slow, uneven, sometimes painful, but always pushing onward.

But in wider society the last few months and weeks have perhaps reminded us how fragile that progress can feel. The tone of some public figures, the divisions they have tried to spread - it can seem as though we’ve taken a few steps backwards.

It takes me back to 2019, and England winning the Cricket World Cup. That felt like a turning point too - a team from every background, showing what modern Britain could look like when it came together. Multiculturalism at its very best.

This popped up on my feed, and apart from this article (sadly behind a paywall) I can’t quite believe such a momentous achievement has gone almost completely unnoticed - Haseeb Hameed being the first British Muslim player to captain a County Championship winning team.
https://t.co/EwM6838gbd Tried to work out if Haseeb Hameed winning the county championship really does reflect a change in English cricket.

Calling all parents and carers - we are consulting on the future of school places over the next 5 years. We need your input to shape our school organisation plan. If you only do one survey this year - make it this one! https://t.co/UVQKayNNq8

Had an inspiring day visiting schools across our borough! It’s incredible to see the amazing work happening in our classrooms and how council funding is transforming education. A huge thank you to The Heathland, Cedars, & William Hogarth for your warm welcome and dedication!

Wonderful atmosphere around Twickenham Stadium today!Especially great how diverse the crowd is compared to a men’s international.Similar in cricket how the hundred crowd is significantly different to that for a men’s test. All great events, just great there’s something for everyone

Had an absolutely fantastic day yesterday. Was wonderful to meet and hear from so many people from across the sectors in Hounslow - education, business, development, charity and more. All invested in making Hounslow the best place it can be.

Nigel Farage has had a lot to say about other people's tax recently. But why doesn't he like talking about his own?

Delighted to attend the topping out ceremony at Fern Grove in Feltham. Another 28 social rent homes - along with the 150+ properties in phases 1-3 already completed - soon available for residents to move in to. Not sure my brick laying is up to much! @LBofHounslow @HowarthHomes

Donkey Wood in Feltham. Lorna calls it “a hidden gem” and she’s absolutely right. Looked stunning again today. I am constantly amazed that we hardly see anyone when we go for a walk there - I wonder what we could do to encourage more people to visit? @LBofHounslow #RiverCrane
