A bit of a diversion for me and a long way from the Highlands, but I've finally made it to Canterbury Cathedral. 1000 years of history seeps through its walls. Incredible.

Very impressed with @ArgyllsMuseum new layout and interpretation. Thanks to volunteer Bill for showing us around and taking us up to the paintings gallery for a look at the Thin Red Line (copy - original in Edinburgh Castle!)

Good walk and amazing views of the Cairngorms from the Waterloo Cairn on Alvie Tor. The 42nd and 92nd highlanders are acknowledged but not the 79th for some reason. The Duke would be disappointed as he mentioned all three in his despatch.

Looking forward to the major Tartan Exhibition in April @VADundee , here's my first blog of 2023 explaining why Highland regiments wear tartan kilts and what they wear underneath.

Sluggan bridge over the river Dulnain at Cartridge. A beautiful example of General Wade's work and not in bad nick for a 300 year old bridge

Beautiful day in Ellon today. This is Gordon Highlanders country, by far the most numerous on the town's war memorial, but interesting to all the other Highland regiments remembered too.

Happy Birthday Prince Charles Edward Stewart, 302 years old today. And Happy New Year to everyone else. The glass is fake but the sentiments are genuine

My last blog of 2022 but more remarkable stories lined up for 2023. Along with #thehighlandersmuseum archive, @BNArchive has been a mine of historical information to add colour and context to the blogs.
This Christmas, why not take 5 and read all about the Christmas truce of 1914 as told in a letter written by Private James Davie of the Seaforth Highlanders. 🎄 Read here: https://t.co/qFoYxKC9iL

Beautiful morning looking along #Inverness historic Church Street. Remove the cars and signage and Bonnie Prince Charlie would recognise it, at least until he reached the Mercure Hotel

Dropped by @CullodenNTS and went on the battlefield tour now included in the entry fee. Our guide Valerie did a great job although Cobham's dragoons outflanking manoeuvre on the Jacobite left needs to be mentioned as its impact on the battle was crucial.

It has been a pleasure to bring these poems, and the personal stories behind them, to light. Plenty more to come
