Clerk, Supabase Auth, Firebase. they’re amazing. But nothing beats the confidence of building auth yourself.

Backend devs, I apologize for every time I said 'it’s just a simple API'.

I'm wondering how Express.js APIs are structured for small apps. I'm a complete beginner. I'm trying something like this since I'm unsure.

Rewriting an app in a new tech stack can be overwhelming 😨.So I’m starting small: just identifying all the Supabase data-access functions and turning each into an Express route. Feels way more manageable than staring at a blank API design wondering where to start.

Also if JWT is stateless and doesn't require session tracking, a common argument in JWT vs. session-based auth, then why store refresh tokens in a database? isn't that the approximatively what session-based auth consist of ? . Genuinely curious tho.

I'm a frontend developer exploring backend development. I have a question about JWT: Is it common to return the accessToken and refreshToken in JSON to the client, or should I use HTTP-only cookies? Tutorials seem inconsistent on this. and do I still need Authorization headers?.

It is so interesting trying to roll my own backend considering I am used to libraries doing auth for me, ORMs, and tools like @supabase.
