i’m not saying that they’re not a leftist band, in fact, i’d agree that they are. but, you don’t know someone’s true intentions EVER. and when those million dollar paychecks hit…….it’s easy to pretend you’re someone you’re not when you have the funds to do so

would booking large stadiums for your fans to pay hundreds of dollars just to see you play be considered punk? no. would having expensive merch instead of encouraging your fans to make their own be considered punk? no.

punk ORIGINALLY was meant to be a movement that was about non-conformity, anti-consumerism, AND anti-authoritarianism. HOWEVER!! green day has become less and less of those things

ciel rant i genuinely will NEVER refer to green day (at least them currently) as “punk” “but ciel, they’re against the government and fascism and stuff!” is that all it takes to be punk nowadays? then that would make almost everyone punk, which is absolutely not the case.
