Now, credit where it’s due: NHS waiting lists have allegedly shortened. Though whether that’s down to actual progress or the statistical equivalent of rearranging the furniture while the house burns is anyone’s guess.

But time, it turns out, reveals more than it heals. And what it's revealed here is a government with the empathy of a vending machine and roughly the same user experience as dial-up internet.
