Really excited to announce that my next book, Make Some Wretched Fool to Pay: Stories will be published by @ulpress. It’s a perfect home for these stories that are set in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. So thrilled to have the book out in the world in 2023!.

Such a pleasure to read and review this tremendous collection. Best book I’ve read all year. Big thanks to Lori for answering some questions for the interview and to Kristin Tenor for the wonderful editorial support.

Not to weigh too heavily into the literary drama of the day, but I’ll just offer up that perhaps if you don’t like writing short stories then you shouldn’t write them or lecture those of us who do like to write them, read them, publish them, think about them.

Just found out there are only three remaining copies of When You’re Down By the River, my limited edition chapbook that BatCat Press published several years ago. Get you a copy while you can. It’s a beautiful, hand bound collection of four of my stories.

Y’all go read this excellent first issue. Some top notch writing in there. “Cardamom Coffee” by Beatrice Lamwaka blew me away.

I stole this idea from my teacher, Neil Connelly, and have been using it for years with my own students. Happy that he’s got it written out and published, where you can all benefit from his wise insight.
