Just back from our @heatherleabirds Lesvos Tour; a week of fantastic birding on a beautiful island. Lots of highlights but best for me was experiencing an arrival of several Levant Sparrowhawk and enjoying the island specialities incl Cinereous Bunting & Rock Nuthatch

Just back from another fantastic @heatherleabirds week on Cyprus. Some photos here, despite my camera being mainly on the blink. A good selection of scarce & rare migrants this year – thanks to @birdsaroundcy for keeping the news coming

A special Hornbill encounter was nesting Austen’s Brown Hornbill at Khao Yai NP. There were at least two males cooperatively feeding the female sealed inside the cavity. She has sealed herself in there for the whole duration of incubation and chick-rearing – at least 90 days.

More Asian favourites; Hornbills. We saw several but star among them were this pair of White-crowned Hornbill and the unbelievably spectacular Rhinoceros Hornbill. Look at the casque on him! That colour is painted on by the application of preen oil.

I’ve finally got-round to sifting photos from the Thailand & Malaysia trip from Feb-Mar. I’ll start with some of my favourites; the Laughingthrushes. Here are Lesser-necklaced, Chestnut-capped, Malayan and White-crested Laughingthrush.

Despite the ‘megas’, I think my favourite bird from our recent Shetland trip was this Little Bunting at Burn of Sound. It showed amazingly well as it busily gleaned individual aphids from the underside of the birch leaves - a real joy to watch.

Just a few of the fantastic group of over 100 White-beaked Dolphin which moved down the east coast of Shetland yesterday. Also seen were six or seven Orca and a Minke Whale, making for a very enjoyable wee break from migrant birding for our @heatherleabirds group

Shetland produces another classic Siberian vagrant, with this Pechora Pipit at Quendale. A great start to the second week of the @Heatherleabirds Shetland for Birders trip!

An amazing Orca experience during the @heatherleabirds Orkney High Summer trip. On Hoy we spent 3 hours continually watching this group of 11 hunting and playing. As we left the island, they came leaping towards, then right under the ferry. Fantastic!
