The little "ChatGPT can make mistakes" footnote is doing a LOT of heavy lifting, and people are ignoring that every day and it's going to cause problems. Real, big problems.

People are so used to computers _computing_ things and calculating objective results, that they expect LLMs to work that way. But they don't. They're stochastic prediction models that weigh attention and temperature to create a native entropy THAT GETS THINGS WRONG. ALL THE TIME.

The problem is that I know far too many people using ChatGPT as a stand-in for a traditional Google search (and Google's AI results do this sort of thing, too) and the erosion of trust is insane. If I took the first result at face value, I would have incorrect information.

These were separate chats started sequentially. ChatGPT 4o vacillates between accurately understanding that Phoenix is UTC-7 and the UK is currently UTC+1 which is thus an 8 hour offset, and. sometimes stating that but getting the math wrong, and sometimes just being wrong.

The best part about ChatGPT is that you absolutely cannot rely on it for even the most simple, derivable, objective queries. It still stochastically generates off-by-one errors with such brazen confidence that you absolutely cannot take anything it says at face value.

Hmm, @Android 15 comes out for @madebygoogle Pixel 9 Pro. while it has some new theft protections, it still allows the most crucial loophole: if someone spies your unlock PIN and swipes the device, they can reset your Google account password and lock you out (and drain your bank).
