If you go back far enough, [socialism] meant basically control of production by producers, elimination of wage labor, democratization of all spheres of life; production, commerce, education, media, workers’ control in factories, community control of communities, and so on (1/2)

Boards of directors are allowed to work together, so are banks and investors and corporations in alliances with one another and with powerful states. That’s just fine. It’s just the poor who aren’t supposed to cooperate.

According to received doctrine in scholarship and general intellectual discourse, the prime goal of state policy is “national security.” There is ample evidence, however, that the doctrine of national security does not encompass the security of the population. (1/2)

#NotAChomskyQuote From the book "Shocks, Crises, and False Alarms" "...[T]he idea of an economy that reverts to known equilibria is important for modeling. Outside the world of academia, however, the economy continuously moves from one disequilibrium to another."

Today, NATO has become a global intervention force under US command, with the official task of controlling the international energy system, sea lanes, pipelines, and whatever else the hegemonic power determines. https://t.co/p6SD4fiNyX (2011)

The postwar Wilson-Palmer, post-WWI “red scare” was the most vicious period of violent repression in U.S. history, apart from the two original sins [of genocide and slavery]. The shocking story is recounted in vivid detail in Adam Hochschild’s penetrating study American Midnight.
