Most people fundamentally underestimate the employment multiplier of oil and gas extraction because they only see the roughnecks and engineers. When a producer announces layoffs, the economic damage radiates outward through at least eleven distinct tiers of adjacent employment,
Houston is getting hit again. Upstream oil set to lose 3,200 jobs in 2026... and I fear it mirrors the same scale of layoffs I flagged for 2025. (not just for Houston- but in total) Watch energy-adjacent jobs next.
