The Supreme Court overturned Roe, 50 years of precedent, with a 6-3 hard-right majority which includes 5 justices appointed by GOP presidents who lost the popular vote, 2 credibly accused of sexual misconduct, & 1 in a totally stolen seat. No wonder there’s a legitimacy crisis.

If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control

Confronting HIV and COVID has been difficult, but my patients give me hope. Sharing this story about Ray and his triumph, despite all the structural barriers. It’s about what beautiful things can happen when two Black gay men find each other. #medtwitter

When I first returned to clinic a couple of months after the COVID-19 pandemic began, the first thing I noticed was that the bowl of candy at the front desk was gone. It had always been kept full,...

Re-posting my favorite Jim poem, “the last day”: Time is promise,
But uninvited circumstance
And wounded souls
Eventually barter it away.
The owner of my borrowed time
Will arrive at random to insist
All what remains of me vanish…
A shadow of a shadow

Passing into mist.
So, I and my last day
Will take a journey together
When we both are spent,
That leaves the familiar
Once infused in all the days,
To stand at the edge of night,
And wonder in the dying light
Exactly where we went. ❤️

We lost a giant in the field and it’s truly heartbreaking. I remember as a freshman in college, deciding whether or not to go into medicine, and finding him as a North Star - exactly the kind of doctor I wanted to be. Thank you Dr. Farmer for changing the world. Rest in Power ❤️
Partners In Health announced that its founder, Dr. Paul Farmer, unexpectedly passed away today in his sleep while in Rwanda. Dr. Farmer was 62 years old. He is survived by his wife, Didi Bertrand Farmer, and their three children. 1/🧵

My beautiful brother’s beautiful piece in The New Yorker. ❤️ @oumgbako
“More than any medicine, the poems seemed to blunt Jim’s pain—they were his most effective treatment.” A doctor reflects on his literary bond with a patient.

This, written by a friend I met at 18, is a reminder of what we thought medicine could be, when we started.
In this long season of loss, this is surely a triumph. My patient Jim means the world to me, so I wrote about our relationship, rooted in poetry, for The New Yorker. I’m so happy to share this with the world. For Jim.

On a whim, @oumgbako asked one of his patients, who believed he only had two years to live, “What gives you purpose as you face your own mortality?” In response, the patient handed him a book of poetry.

Experienced a homophobic microaggression in clinic today. In the past it would’ve zapped me of energy, but now it’s a reminder that I’m free. Free of the emptiness and self-loathing of toxic masculinity. I wish we could all be free. #Gaymedtwitter #blackandgayisbeautiful

Stop comparing this to other countries. This is white supremacist violence and it is 100% American.
