What matters isnโt how well a teacher holds studentsโ attention; it's whether a teacher knows enough about how learning happens to stop being the center of attention.

So much laughter in school today. Our theme was 'make someone smile'. Staff started early! ๐๐๐ #RedNoseDay

We have been using the @eyejackapp to view our grade 6 @DoInkTweets animations. I love that you can pre-scan the codes so that you can view multiple artworks at once. #arted #ipaded #animation @ssischool

Deep respect for early childhood admins who show up at leadership meetings not to twist EC programs to fit a mold that makes EC easier for others to accommodate but instead as bold champions of developmentally appropriate programs that work for small children & their families.

Todayโs lunch time listening #CanIGoAndPlayNow. โWhen we work with young children, we are dealing with people, not numbers. Development, not progress. And with what should be joy, not mechanical learning by rote.โ @canigoandplay

#SharingthePlanet always a favourite UOI. There's always "that" child who leads the way. She's teaching her peers to look closely and wonder. She's also teaching respect & care. #AISMLearns

"No one has ever explained why children are so full of questions outside of the school...[but there is a] conspicuous absence of display of curiosity about the subject matter of school lessons." -John Dewey, Democracy & Education

โ๐ป Play is the curriculum. Play is enough. Play is always purposeful. Play is beautiful. Play is messy. Play is chaotic at times. Play is expression. Play is connection. Play is academic. Play is learning.
We all know the research and benefits of play for children, it is incredible that as educators who understand how valuable and important play is to children that we are still having to defend it. Thank you to all of you who continue advocate for the right to play.

#AppleEduChat A2: I try to keep showing up for everyone. It could be a small action like a handwritten note or a larger one such as advocating for things Ts and Ss deserve. I try to let everyone know they are valued and appreciated, have a safe space to be real, and give hope.

The lending library at Canyon Nest is well underway! Thanks to our partners, Families at the Border, for the wonderful lending library that gives children at Canyon Nest the opportunity to check out books to be read in the shelter with their families.

I said on social media, it's a shame that teachers/schools are celebrating Valentine's Day today; yet there is no mention of Lunar New Year, one of the largest global celebrations; and she said "but many of us don't have Asian students in our class." This is problematic. /1

My children aren't part of a generation that need to catch up. They need to reconnect. It's laughing with friends, exercise and activities, messing around on the beach and cuddles with their grandparents that they are missing and now need.

What are your thoughts on play? - Is it important? If so, how? - What learning happens through play? - How do children become stronger learners through play? Can we facilitate this? How? - Do we ever stop playing? @AnnevanDam1966
