Sometimes I do space science. Lecturer in Physics @NorthumbriaUni. From π©πͺ living in π¬π§. Favourite missions: @ESA_rosetta and @cometintercept. Obsessive π¦

Do you like #space π ? Do you like #comets β ? Do you like data analysis π©βπ» ? If you answered yes, to all of those, you can apply for a #PhD with me to work on @esa mission data to explore the cometary electron environment using #machinelearning.

I understand that I am traveling alone, but I still paid for both tickets and this just feels like you are trying to punish me for an unforeseen circumstance. Please let me know how to contest this @TPExpressTrains

I am very happy about my decision to leg it to Harwich and cross with @StenaLine after my @Eurostar was canceled yesterday. I was unsble to rebook my ticket to another train and at least Iβve now made it to the continent. Also shout out to @Interrail for being so flexible!

As a union member myself I usually support strike action even if it means I have to change travel plans or I donβt travel. But the strike by the #eurotunnel staff is unacceptable. It was not announced and many people will not be able to be with their families for Christmas.

@LNER Iβm traveling with @Interrail so canβt even get a refund for this misery of a journey and missed my connections to and in Europe

Very nice thread 𧡠on an even nicer paper on Jupiterβs moon #Europa. Congratulations to @Hans_Huybrighs for the great work!
The underground π ocean of #Jupiter's moon #Europa makes particles at 1000s of kilometers distance take a 'detour'. Follow the story below. New study by me and my colleagues here https://t.co/gimcp4fZtS 1/15

Thank you for having me, I had a great time! Lovely to see another planetary research group π΄ πͺ βοΈ
Today we had a fascinating talk about comets and plasma by @charlottestalks at @PhysicsUoL, thanks a lot for coming to see us Charlotte!! β¨π°οΈβ¨π«β¨

Finally! It was a loss for UK research excellence to leave this programme in the first place. The benefits far outweigh the cost and this will allow for better research to be done (again) across Europe! πͺπΊπ¬π§ π§βπ
We have just reached a political agreement on the UK's participation in Horizon Europe and Copernicus. It will allow the EU and UK to deepen their relationship in research, innovation and space, bringing together research and space communities. More β

Lovely start of the day thanks to @DB_Bahn. Two trains delayed and the crucial train to Switzerland canceled. They make it really difficult to use trains instead of flying π© New connection: πππππ¨πππ

I gave a seminar at @MIST_UK and they uploaded it to YouTube. So if you are interested in a talk on cometary plasmas check it out here πif you are not interested, still check it out so you know what you are missing!
π¨ New seminar on our YouTube channel! @charlottestalks @SolarSpaceNU gave an excellent seminar this morning on "The Magnetic Field of a Comet", featuring lots of exciting @ESA_Rosetta observations! βοΈπ°οΈπ§²π Watch it here:

you can read our paper, or you can have rhinos explain it to you! Both are great options to learn about electric fields and waves at cometsβοΈ
We really want to know how comets work: how the fields accelerate particles and how the field are generated. A new paper on Particle-in-Cell simulations of fields and waves at Comet 67P by @charlottestalks and myself just appeared in @AandA_journal

My student wrote a paper and it is now open for discussion at @EGU_AnGeophys. He did all of the work while also studying full-time, so I'm quite proud of this outcome. Take a look and discuss if you like mirror modes and/or comets!
