As some have asked, I’ll add: this is Edwin Austin Abbey’s 1906 oil painting, “Columbus in the New World.” It’s currently owned by Yale University Art Galley, but I think it belongs in a permanent Smithsonian exhibit which celebrates America’s earliest European explorers.
