We've now recorded 5 of the 6 species of deer found in the UK. These magnificent animals do a great job of grazing back the vegetation...

Over the last week we've recorded two new species of deer at the camp, check out these handsome fallow deer (the first one has fashioned a nice wig too!)

Exciting to see what we think is a polecat at the camp. This species was once so persecuted it was on the brink of extinction in the UK, but thankfully it's now making a comeback 😁

We have a jay at the site with BIG ambitions, it wants to be a tawny owl and has made a good start with the impersonations!

Lovely to capture this tender moment between mum and twins. Even better with the amazing Castle Wild Camp backdrop of hawthorn in blossom. Ignore the timestamp, this was filmed yesterday!

The long-tailed tits fledged today! This species builds a domed nest out of moss and lines the nest with as many as 1,500 feathers to make it soft for the eight to twelve eggs they lay.

A fleeting glimpse of a beautiful red fox at the camp. This species can run over 30 mph, jump over 6 ft high, and have amazing hearing; they can apparently hear a crow in flight from up to a third of a mile away!

Another beautiful week at the camp; orchids emerging, fawns out grazing and birds busily creating hidden nests (the bottom left photo is a chiffchaff nest, they have likely flown all the way from Africa to raise their young here) 🙌

By grazing vegetation, these beautiful roe deer do an amazing job of keeping the glades at the camp open (and therefore perfect for you to camp in!).

We often see magpies trying to steal food from our resident buzzards. Better luck next time!
